Where Did CHTULU Come From?
What's the story??? It's funny & sounds like an inside joke I should've known about by now but it's been around so long I've just been acting like I'm in on it. Kinda like when somebody remembers your name and keeps using it and you forgot theirs but it's too late to ask what their name is.

So I'm askin.

24. Do they still have "Summer Fun Cthulhu"?
He's PRECIOUS! Especially the Hawaiian shirt, orange swim trunks, flip-flops, and straw hat. I've got one sitting on my mantel, along with the Eeyore with a H&K PS-1 sniper-rifle.

17. Got introduced to Lovecraft fiction in high school
I still have four hardbound volumes of his stuff on my bookshelf. Great stuff.

If you can't wrap your brain around a Riemann sphere, however, don't even think of visiting sunken R'lyeh. It's all non-Euclidean geometry. You'll go batty trying to figure out the angles.

18. This quote from 'Call of Cthulhu seems almost prophetic now....
Edited on Thu Apr-29-04 12:24 PM by jus_the_facts
...."The most merciful thing in the world, I think, is the inability of the human mind to correlate all its contents. We live on a placid island of ignorance in the midst of black seas of infinity, and it was not meant that we should voyage far. The sciences, each straining in its own direction, have hitherto harmed us little; but some day the piecing together of dissociated knowledge will open up such terrifying vistas of reality, and of our frightful position therein, that we shall either go mad from the revelation or flee from the deadly light into the peace and safety of a new dark age. ~H.P.Lovecraft~ The Call of Cthulhu

20. If you haven't yet read the gospel of St. Lovecraft, get thee to a library
Edited on Thu Apr-29-04 02:44 PM by 0rganism
You'll find mostly short stories and novellas, but there are a few full length books. H.P. Lovecraft is the true missing link between 19th and mid-to-late 20th century horror writers. The influence of Bram Stoker pales by comparison. ;)
