Anyone listening to Air America RIGHT NOW? 8:40 am Kerry VP?
Edited on Wed Apr-28-04 07:58 AM by NewHampshireDem
I just heard a news piece about a potential Kerry running mate. Did anyone else catch it?

4. That's the problem
I missed the name and the source of the story. I know 1. it was a woman and 2. she's on either the house foreign affairs or intelligence committee

I think it came from a California paper, but I checked the LA Times and it isn't there.

Argh!

9. LA Times
The only story I found on the LA Times site was kind of general. Evan Bayh was the guy they mentioned most.

The only woman even mentioned (and that as a far-out unlikelihood) was Christie Todd-Whitman.

5. A woman-- I can't remember her name-
Edited on Wed Apr-28-04 07:48 AM by latebloomer
never heard of her-- but she's strong on defense and national security.

My immediate thought-- Bad idea.

PS-- They were saying he had just about settled on her.

6. Latebloomer....I agree and I am a woman
Shades of Dukakis all over again.

The pugs will shred Kerry and paint him as a repeat of Dukakis.

NOW is not the time for this.

BUSH must go and this is not the way to do it.

The time is not right for a woman VP-- and I hate to say it, because I'm a woman too.

Especially a woman nobody's ever heard of.

He needs someone well-known and charismatic, to compensate for his deficiencies in that area.

15. well-known and charismatic
the last thing Kerry needs is a VP that he looks bad in comparison to.

16. "Now is not the time for this"
Why am I so sick and tired of hearing this argument every single time someone shows progressive ideas?

"Now is not the time for gay marriage."

"Now is not the time for a female VP."

"Now is not the time for a female President."

Blah blah blah blah!

I am sure the same arguments were heard back in the 50's and 60's too, during the civil rights argument; "Now is not the time for them thar n****** to have rights."

Sheesh! When are people going to wake up and realize it is the fucking 21st century, not the 16th century?

8. Was it Anna Eshoo?
http://www-eshoo.house.gov/bio.html

She's a woman, House Intel Comm., and from California. Her bio looks like she would hit on all the right notes ... health care, oil dependence, etc.

I was listening but not carefully. I believe that's the name that was floated.

11. That could be ...
here's her bio

http://www.house.gov/harman/harman/Bio/JHbio2003.html

Good resume on security and intel:

Upon returning to Congress for a fifth term in 2002, Harman was appointed by the House Democratic leadership to serve as Ranking Member on the Intelligence Committee for the 108th Congress. And at the request of the House Speaker and Minority Leader, she previously helped spearhead all House actions in response to the September 11 attacks as Ranking Member on the panel's Subcommittee on Terrorism and Homeland Security. Harman was also appointed to the new House Select Committee on Homeland Security.

14. Great - this is Bill Bennett's choice
DUers are already not liking her too well - I hope this idea goes by the wayside.

12. In today's Chicago Tribune, Clarence Page suggests Colin Powell...
As Kerry's VP.

There's probably a snowball's chance in hell of that ever happening, but it's such a wild idea that it could be a huge boost to Kerry's chances, IMO.

13. They said it again ...
it is Jane Harman, but they only said a "published source," without giving the name of the source ... dammit!
