1. I vote other because
I live in Florida and don't like to be thought of in the New York, New Jersey, Washington DC zone. We sort of have a zone of our own.

8. I live in that part of Indiana that doesn't observe daylight savings...
...so part of the year I am in eastern, and part of the year I am in central.

I get confused.

16. Anywhere near Carmel?
We're looking at moving either there or Broad Ripple. It's going to be culture shock moving from Chitown. What the political climate like there?

18. Carmel?
You can't swing a dead possum in that town without hitting a Republican. Nice school system, but very large. (They have a nice tax base.) Homes are a wee bit overpriced, but still attainable for alot of people. Not alot of architectural diversity (much of the growth for Carmel in the last 25 years has been due to development and expansion.)

Broad Ripple, OTOH, is more of an artsy-fartsy section of town. Homes are a little bit more historic in nature (older section of town). The school system is not as good as the one in Carmel - you can do a google search for ISTEP scores (Indiana standard tests - don't know what the acronym stands for) for the two schools to compare. You will, however, tend to run into more progressives in Broad Ripple than you will in Carmel. Broad Ripple has some decent art galleries, a few good pubs/bars, a really nice nature trail (municipally supported and maintained) in the Monon Trail, and is convenient to both downtown Indianapolis and the northside (Castleton/Nora/College Park areas).

Are you relocating due to a job change? PM me if you have any other questions, and I'll tell you what I know.

22. Well, a potential job change.
It looks like I'm coming down for a final interview on May 14. My wife actually grew up in Carmel, so she's psyched for a return. She's also a liberal, but I wanted to get other opinions about the political climate down there (she's less involved than I am).

Thanks for the help, and I'll certainly PM you w/questions.

19. Plug for Broad Ripple
I lived most of the last ten years in Broad Ripple. Lots of nice older homes and good selection of bars & restaurants.

Never lived in Carmel but it is definitely much more conservative.

If your moving from Chicago to Indy, say goodbye to good Pizza.

14. I'm on HOOSIER time
Daylight savings time is some sort of commie plot to confuse us and catch us off guard.

If you change your clock twice a year, will you ever truly know what time it is?

24. Yeah why didn't we get an Arizona time zone? Even Windows knows we're
contrarians :)

We are mountain in the winter and Pacific in the summer

We don't need any additional daylight hours here heheheh

25. That's Hawaiian *Standard* Time to you.
No Daylight Savings here. The day length doesn't vary all that much, since we're in the tropics, plus we're near the western edge of the time zone itself.

So, through late October:

3 hrs. behind the Left (Middle?) Coast
6 hrs. behind the East Coast
