Poll question: Favorite song by Men At Work?
I was just thinking about those guys today. Underrated band.

3. It's a Mistake
Jump down the shelters to get away
The boys are cockin' up their guns
Tell us general, is it party time?
If it is can we all come?
Don't think that we don't know
Don't think that we're not trying
Don't think we move too slow
It's no use after crying
Saying

It's a mistake, it's a mistake
It's a mistake, it's a mistake

After the laughter has died away
And all the boys have had their fun
No surface noise now, not much to say
They've got the bad guys on the run
Don't try to say you're sorry
Don't say he drew his gun
They've gone and grabbed old Ronnie
He's not the only one
Saying

It's a mistake, it's a mistake
It's a mistake, it's a mistake

Tell us commander, what do you think?
'Cos we know that you love all that power
Is it on then, are we on the brink?
We wish you'd all throw in the towel
We'll not fade out too soon
Not in this finest hour
Whistle your favourite tune
We'll send a card and a flower
Saying

It's a mistake, it's a mistake
It's a mistake, it's a mistake

Great poll - love these guys!!!!

4. What, no "Helpless Automaton"?
Would work in the soundtrack if anyone ever films a William Gibson novel, or perhaps Neal Stephenson's "Snow Crash"...

I like all--what?--twelve Men at Work songs. I just put on my Men at Work mp3's. Thanks for the inspiration.

5. Overkill
(The older I get, the more this song rings true)

I can't get to sleep
I think about the implications
Of diving in too deep
And possibly the complications

Especially at night
I worry over situations
I know will be alright
Perhaps it's just imagination

Day after day it reappears
Night after night my heartbeat shows the fear
Ghosts appear and fade away

Alone between the sheets
Only brings exasperation
It's time to walk the streets
Smell the desperation

At least there's pretty lights
And though there's little variation
It nullifies the night from overkill

Day after day it reappears
Night after night my heartbeat shows the fear
Ghosts appear and fade away
Come back another day

I can't get to sleep
I think about the implications
Of diving in too deep
And possibly the complications

Especially at night
I worry over situations
I know will be alright
It's just overkill

Day after day it reappears
Night after night my heartbeat shows the fear
Ghosts appear and fade away
Ghosts appear and fade away
Ghosts appear and fade away

15. I chose this one, too.
I always like it. I listened to Men at Work secretly when I wasn't supposed to listen to secular music...then I got "right with God" and threw away all my secular music. Geez. (My mom got especially upset at the "ghosts appear and fade away" part.)

Much of my atheist adult life has been spent tracking down the good music I shitcanned.

12. Probably the only episode of "Scrubs" ...
I have ever seen. I was visiting the folks and they had it on. When Colin showed up I was like: "Hey! That's Colin Hay, from Men at Work!" My folks, who weren't into popular 80's music, couldn't appreciate it.

I thought his role in that episode was great. I love the song too.

13. I thought that Men at Work....
was one of the high points of 80's music. I really liked Level 42 as well. I think that in both bands that the musicianship and the songwriting made them memorable, as opposed to the image that sold many other bands in the 80's.
