5. I'll just bet you're against gay marriage now, aren't you?
Gonna give us some of that "God made Adam and Eve, not Adam and Steve" stuff, huh, 700 club boy??

:-)

6. No, I'm just against gays.
I hope it's obvious I'm kidding. One of the most sickening things I ever saw was when I lived up in Wrigleyville in Chicago. This area borders "Boys' Town," which has, as one might imagine, a huge homosexual population. Anyhow, they had a Gay Pride parade on a Saturday afternoon, and along the way was a church. There was a smattering of anti-gay protest, but the most sickening was a man with a child. He was holding a sign that says "God hates fags." The stupidity and contradiction in that sign says it all for me with right-wing fundies.

9. You see the thing is...
...that is the type of behaviors and attitudes that one has in middle and high school, along with racial stereotyping and bigotry. Most people outgrow that at some point. They join the military, and see that there is a world outside the town they grew up in, or college, where they discover the same thing. I just chalk it up to plain old ignorance. Some people never see that there is an entire diverse world out there, and to be honest, that's the way the government likes it. An uninformed public is extremely open to manipulation.

I'll never forget when I was in second grade, a kid and I were riding a bus back from some program we were in to our elementary school. He had the idea to yell "n****r lips" at this woman walking with a baby stroller. Funny thing is, she was white, and I had no idea what the word meant. Anyway, after we did it, the bus driver pulled our asses into the principal's office, and made us call our parents.

My normally VERY calm father (I've seen him angry maybe six times in my life, and I'm 28), took the afternoon off work to be there when I got home. He had a dictionary in front of him, made me look up the word, read it to him, and then just verbally laid into me about respecting other people, etc. I'm very glad for that lesson. I still chuckle when I think about how puzzled that woman must have been :)

I'm not going to be able to sleep tonight.

:scared:

No big hair here. I did have a 'fro going due to nine weeks without a hair cut, but the horrified barber ended that last week.

You know, the same number as were at the anti-choice demonstration.
