Dolphins coach Dave Wannstedt won't have to worry about his team entering its 2004 regular-season opener feeling overconfident.
Miami's first opponent will be the visiting Tennessee Titans, who spanked the Dolphins by a 31-7 margin last November. The Titans, which advanced to the divisional round of last year's playoffs, will surely catch the attention of Miami's players more than the Houston Texans did last season.
In one of the biggest shockers of the 2003 season, Houston upset Miami, 21-20, in the opener at Pro Player Stadium. The Dolphins had won 11 consecutive season openers and were considered almost invincible in September home games.
Asked whether his team entered last season overconfident after being touted by oddsmakers as the Super Bowl XXXVIII favorite, Wannstedt said, "I would hope not, but I don't know. We talked about it all along about not (getting caught up) and tried doing all the motivational things ... The opener, we might have been. I didn't do a good enough job."
