that was one low and fast flying jet that just screamed through here heading west in NC...anybody else hear it?

i'm on a flight path for the hospital and usually hear helicoptors and small planes, while commercial RDU are too high to hear,
but that sounded like a missile coming in i kid you not..

for a good 10 seconds there, or at least it felt like that long.....i thought i was a goner.

:scared:

i've been here for 15 years and NEVER heard anything like that...

i was literally frozen in my seat at the computer listening to it approach, i realized it was getting louder and then louder and moving really fast....coming from my right (ESE) and at the last moment went to a window and looked just in time to see it screeching over...military obviously.

clearly too low since we have a local airport and the hospital flight path etc.

i thot i was gonna die! for a few seconds there.

edit; sorry, yeah there are bases southeast of here, and i just corrected my bearings above. The closest base is fayettville i think, a good hour away.
i'm in Chapel Hill.

8. The walls of my house shook and the windows rattled
when Bush's entourage flew over my house the other day. All the neighbors ran out of their houses to see what was going on.

6. Always remember.
It's 17:00 somewhere. GO for it. I'm having a beer myself at the moment.

I missed the jet you are talking about, but I know the sound well. Was it a fighter or commercial plane?

7. had to be military
Edited on Sun Apr-25-04 03:19 PM by dweller
i only got a glimpse of it, definetly not commercial.

see, i'm also near a nuke plant, and anything low i'll always look at the direction, and height it's at, with the larger airport in one direction and the nuke plant in the direct opposite, etc.

i knew from the sound it wasn't large or commercial.....and in my mind i heard 'missile incoming' b/c it sounded like it was coming down....but it was just low and fast.

i think my hearts stopped racing now.

:) sheepish,

10. If you ever hear a fighter craft's signature... it's too late!
Any (modern-day) capable fighter/intercept aircraft you'd hear on an intercept flight, over class-B airspace, like RDU would represent the probroverbial shit hitting the fan!
