1. You may not like this but it works for me.
Take a big gulp of vinegar. Instant hiccup cure.

3. This works every time.
Take a Q-tip and touch the uvula (that piece of sking hanging in the back of your mouth) and they will cease.

(got this idea from a person who worked for a doctor and a patient came in w/ hiccups he had had for a week)

4. Thanks Caldesi and RebleOne...
they stopped on their own all of the sudden as I was reading your advice. So weird!

But I'll keep your tips on hand for the next time.

:loveya: I so appreciate!

5. What works for me.
My understanding is that hiccups are spasms of the diaphragm. I close my eyes and comcentrate on relaxing my diaphragm (inside at the bottom of your ribs, just above your stomach). Works every time for me.

7. there's actually TWO types of hiccups
depending on the cause or origination, unfortunately the resulting "hiccuping" is the same

if it lasts longer than 24 hours or the "hiccups" frequently reoccur -- then it's time to see a doctor

one type of hiccup responds to "sweet", the other to "sour"

most common responds to "sweet" -- take a teaspoon of sugar add a couple of drops of water to "liquify" it and swallow it -- repeat if there is no change in about 15 minutes

if the above doesn't work -- then you may have the kind that responds to "sour"

teaspoon of lemon juice and water -- about half water and half lemom juice

10. That's interesting...
The sugar cure was always used in our family; but I'd never heard of the vinegar one.

Thanks for the info!

8. ice-cream
A spoonful of ice-cream might work.

Or try drinking a glass of water with a butter knife in it. Really, it works.

13. sugar cure has always worked in my family
Spoonful of sugar, put it under your tongue, let it dissolve. This gets it absorbed into your system super fast.

14. Mental exercise...
close your eyes and visualize the last WHITE HORSE you've seen. Concentrate on it for about 30-45 seconds. Your hiccups will cease.

15. Hiccoughs are psychological, mostly
The first one, yeah, you need that one. The rest of them are because you keep thinking about them, and can't relax/forget... I can do the same thing mentioned above, concentrate on them and relax and force myself to breathe normally. You can teach yourself to do this. Also, think about most hiccough cures; they distract you from thinking about your hiccoughs (drink water upside down, stand one one foot and sing, drink vinegar (blech!) etc). You're concentrating so much on what you're trying to do that you forget about your hiccoughs. My proof? Probably 90% of the people I've told this to while they are hiccoughing aren't hiccoughing anymore by the time I'm done telling them! :D ;)

18. If the sugar does not work
Breathe into a PAPER bag. 10 deep breaths should do it.
