4. The larch.

OK, it's not really the state tree of Ohio, but the topic reminded me of a Monty Python skit.

(Haha! Before I clicked on "post message", I noticed that I had typed "shit" instead of "skit". You can tell what sort of words come easily to the tips of my fingers.)

14. Here's a buckeye tree!

Even better. Here's a chocolate buckeye:

And the recipe for chocolate buckeyes:

Ohio State Buckeye Balls
Mix together 2 cups creamy peanut butter, 1 1/2 sticks
softened butter, 2 lbs. confectioner's sugar.
Form into small balls. Then using toothpick, dip balls into
16 oz. Melted dipping chocolate until almost covered.
Leaving top exposed. Refrigerate for 1 hour.
Serve on game day!

Yummy!

26. WV- Sugar Maple

my dad makes syrup from the sap of the maples on his farm- but it's really gross because he never boils it down thick enough or strains it carefully enough, so it's runny and full of bugs.

Aren't you glad you asked?

27. MD...White Oak
The most famous of all, the Wye Oak, was felled by lightning in 2002.
I wept unashamedly when I learned that it went down.
It was 460 years old. Here are a couple of pics:

(That's the tree in the background)

Link to this pic by eliminating the space between www and .mdarchives, because it's too big to post here...You won't be disappointed!

31. Hawai'i proudly presents the kukui (candlenut)

A Polynesian introduced plant species. the kukui, better known as the candlenut. The nuts of this tree provided the ancient Hawaiians with light, oil, relishes, and medicine

You will often see people, especially at speeches, conferences, etc. with a lei made from polished dark brown nuts instead of flowers. This is the kukui lei.

Today I planted a palm roebeleni double....which I have two on each side of my spa...and I played in the dirt with colorful flowers in different pot arrangements. So I had fun on Earth Day Zomby but the bones are achy...can't wait til the spa is up and running,
it's quite a project but they tell me it's worth it! :hi:
