Update on Mrs. Mikimouse...
I just spoke with her, and she is beginning to sound like her normal self, worried more about going back to work and getting back to her 'normal' schedule. We had a 'discussion' about what she really needs to do (take it easy for a while, the work can wait for a week or two and she doesn't need to wear herself out-all I do is suggest, I long ago surrendered the notion of doing more than that;)
Her platelet count increased overnight, so right now she is stable at 14. They will discharge her at 35, as they told her that she can walk around with 35 as long as it is stable. She has gotten a very large dose of prednisone and gamma globulin and has it running constantly (the IVAC alarm is driving her nuts, but that's a good sign; if she's complaining about stuff like that she is feeling better). She had a bone marrow biopsy today, and endured it like the champ she is. She said it hurt a little, but they had given her a goodly dose of anesthetic locally, so she doesn't really remember the pain. I'm glad of that. The results, if this is really ITP, should be normal, and I will keep my fingers, toesm, eyes, and any otehr available appendages crossed for luck. Right now, she says that there is no reason for me to come to Louisiana, but that may change. I will probably go anyway, but not until Saturday, as I was not able to get coverage for my Thursday night class (it only meets once a week and missing a class at this time of the semester could be very difficult). Anyway, that's what is happening right now. Thanks from the bottom of my heart to all of you, it was a pretty tough night last night and today was nothing to write home about either. There seems to be some light at the end of the tunnel, and we'll aim for that.:yourock: :loveya: :grouphug:

1. My aunt had ITP several years ago
and recovered completely. Good luck to you and your wife.

10. Thank you harper!...
That is very good information to have. Right now, her greatest fear seems to be that she won't be able to do what she loves, field work. She is a professional interviewer and research (it is what we both do), and she has a particular gift for it. I'll happily convey that information to her. Hugs!

7. Thanks, I am glad to hear the slight irritation in her voice again...
funny how you get used to some things as indicators of a person's physical and mental health. When she once again starts to refer to herself as Atilla the Huness, I will know that she is OK.

9. Thank you SW...
The good thoughts have really lifted her spirits. She has never posted here, but I suspect that she may begin after all of this. She finally understands the calibre of people on this board.

15. Me too! At the least, we now know what we are probably dealing with...
We already talked about her taking it easy for a while and maybe considering moving back to College Station. I can fairly easily carry the household expenses for a year and she could, at least theoretically, concentrate on finishing her dissertation. That sure would put her mind at ease.

16. Thank you Kathleen04...
I'm sure that the good thoughts and karma from the folks here have helped. Her spirits are good, and she is getting a bit cranky about getting back to work. with her, that is a very good sign. I suspect that now that we know what we are dealing with, we will be able to do whatever is necessary to keep things on a positive roll. Hugs!

Looks more and more like ITP. That is the route the physician is taking in the treatment regimen. Hugs!
