Need some ideas, please
I visit another site where they allow freepers, who generally act like rude cretins who make anti-Islamic remarks. Today, they called my faith a 'gutter religion'. I try not to get angry-that is not the way of God-we are to be forgiving of those whose evolution is such that they are filled with hate. But I would appreciate some comments I could make to these creatures so that they would be shown off for the bigots they are. It would be good if the remarks would be such to make people laugh at them. Any ideas?

4. Good article
thank you so much!

I doubt if it will help with these people. Sadly, I really think that there is no hope. At least it is obvious to anyone who visits this site that these creatures are bigoted and full of hate.

If you can use the Bible against their debate it helps alot. Like with the gay marriage argument. The use the Bible to condemn homosexuality but ignore God's words about killing a disobedient child or stoning a wife. They get to "pick and choose" teach them the hypocrisy.

10. I use all the holy books
luckily, I'm a Cheraga (ordained minister), and have copies of the Torah, Bible, and Qur'an. When the freepers quoted, or rather, misquoted from them, I found the citation, quoted the entire thing, and included the context. They haven't dared misquote for a while.

its very good
to have those sources. I do fear that the hatred these people have will never change, all we can hope is that they die off like the dinosaurs they are. As long as its not a big meteorite that killed the first dinosaurs because that might get me too. :)

2. Reply to bigots
ayeshahaqqiqa:
The people you're talking about are a scourge that has always existed and always will. You can't get through to them. And as far as their reference to a "gutter religion," these people would need a ladder to get climb up to a gutter. Sorry, can't think of any clever answers to give you to reply to them, but you can always hope for the Corleone solution: That they'll wake up and find a horse's head in the bed.

8. Grin
the next time I visit that board, I'm going to whistle the theme from "The Godfather". Just thinking about a horse's head next to these people will make me smile. Thanks!

5. I'm glad it was locked
You don't know how hard it is when one has to explain again and again that Islam is a religion of tolerance and peace. I don't mind discussing Islam, especially Sufism. I don't mind debate. But it is discouraging when one is faced with bigotry and blind hatred. And it is very very difficult to remain calm and not to become angry or strike back-neither of which would help matters.

Thanks to the mods for looking out for threads that show bigotry or hate of any faith and for locking them.

13. I dunno
What really bothered me was how many DUers were so anti-Islam. It reminded me of my Int'l Politics class when my prof asked what words came to mind when you heard the word Islam. I said peace and everyone else said terrorist. Battling ignorance is a full-time job.

7. Who cares what those jack-asses think
Anybody who actually knows anything about Islam knows that it is a religion built upon tolerance and love of your fellow human being. Just because a very small minoritiy of wackos are claiming it, doesnt mean that they speak for the over 1 billion other followers.

Personally, I claim no religion, but I would rather hang out with a tolerant humanity loving muslim... than a right-wing, fallwel following fundamentalist Christian.

12. Quote Jesus on peace, brotherhood or tolerance...
point out that Islam honors Jesus as a prophet, and ask them why they don't.

17. Can't remember the real name...
When I taught a course in the History of the Roman Catholic Religion at my church I had some people from the Mosque here in Orlando serve as a guest speaker (we were at the part about the origins of Islam.) One of the gentlemen showed me an English translation of a book that featured stories (parables) about the Virgin Mary, Ishmael, and other well-known characters from the Bible. Sorry, I can't remember the real name.

PS - These people will never agree with you -- brush the dirt off your feet to paraphrase St. Paul.
