8. Not really a thread but an answer...
For an Example: One of the DU Police-Officers posted something like
"I'm a cop..Ask me anything"
Well, one poster posted about 25 answers that were extremely argumentative with the Cop (the cop would say green, the poster would say Blue)
As I said..after about 25 times of this crap, I lost complete interest in the whole thread.
(I actually wanted to tell the poster to shut the Fuck up and go bother someone else...but of course I didn't)

I have a sense of humor and I know that when people say stuff on this website, it's not meant to be sexist, racist, or any other forms of harassment.

If you don't like it, ignore it. Simple as that. :)

16. Yes
We should all run out of DU anyone who has feelings. Run them out on a rail, I say. I can totally see the point of starting this thread after everything had died down. After all, there are probably still some people lurking here who have been offended at some point in their time on DU. They should be outed.

18. People are different
They have different personalities and have had different life experiences. I don't think it is the biggest virtue in the world to have such a thick skin that nothing ever bothers you. At any rate, I don't think that getting offended at offensive material is all that terrible of a thing. I would think that those who are truly thick skinned wouldn't care either way.

I get offended at all those who basically are telling others what to think and feel instead of trying to understand. They are trying to shun those who feel strongly on an issue. All night, I thought about leaving DU over this issue. But I'm not going to let a few immature, insensitive asshats push me out.

21. Strange....
I just finished reading a passage in a book that states

"When you feel offended, you're practicing judgment. You judge someone else to be stupid, insensitive, rude, arrogant, inconsiderate, or foolish, and then you find yourself upset and offended by their conduct. What you may not realize is that when you judge another person, you do not define them. You define yourself as someone who needs to judge others."

I thought this was interesting. I don't remember the last time I got offended. It's easy to find things to be offended about i guess.

23. But sometimes
Edited on Wed Apr-21-04 05:41 PM by Pithlet
People really ARE being stupid, rude, arrogant, inconsiderate, or foolish. We all are, sometimes. We're only human. And it's okay to call us on it when we are being so.

Besides, isn't it judgmental to judge those who are "easily offended"?

Edited to fix spell check induced typo. And to add that I find it hard to believe that there are so many here who are NEVER offended, or who have never been the offender. Such perfection must be hard to keep up.

31. Well
I guess it is "only" an opinion when I think white supremacists are stupid, rude, arrogant, fools. I don't see what it has to do with this thread. I still think that judging and calling out people who are offended is a waste of time. And yes, that is my opinion.

27. I offend all the time
And if I do, I apologize. i don't go out of my way to offend anyone, but it seems like some people seem to get offended so easy that you would have to sew your lips shut to please everyone.
I don't think that passage is judgmental of the "easily offended". It is just something that some people might want to think about. To live your life worrying about the opinions and thoughts of others is non-productive in my opinion. I do my best not to let others opinions guide my own life. I don't have the time to really worry about what someone else is saying.

I am a person with feelings. DU is a great place, and the people here are great, but there are times when some things that are said are hurtful, and I have been offended. I will talk, debate, discuss, laugh, cry, and be offended at the posts here, generally enjoying the company of most people here. And not you, or anyone here gets to tell me how I should feel. No one gets to tell me what and what not to be offended about. How is that?
