Hail to the Chimp - a poem

Hail to the Chimp

I woke up this morning
On blue silk sheets
With a brown eagle
Looking the way of olive branches

I scratch my head
“Is our children learning?” I wonder aloud.
I put my left slipper on the right foot
covered in brown matted fur.

I walk over to a door
My back hunched over
Arms dangle
I find a banana and eat it.

I see a chimp across the room
I run towards him, but I hit
a piece of glass
Fall back on my ass.

He made me fall! He will die
I throw a fist at the chimp
But he shatters and cuts me up
Blood spills into the sink.

He has gone. I am defeated.
I swing from a metal pole
Bridging two walls
“Good morning, Mr. President.”
