I had to have a cigarette after Sen. Byrd's speech
Until now, my favorite was the one featuring "FIE THE POLICY OF PRE-EMTION! FIE!"

This one beat it by a mile. He just said it all.

His assistant behind him was visibly shaken by it at some points.

Surely CSPAN will replay this one.

2. Just caught pieces of it.
Man-o-man...he was ON FIRE!

One of the truely great orators left in the Senate.

I forgive this man for his past and personally place him in my personal pantheon of STATESMAN!!

4. One part was particularly good
He said the pResident keeps telling us to "Stay the Course" but the pResident has negelected to tell us exactly "what that course is".

does stay the course"...mean that America's sons and daughters will continue to spill their blood in Iraq?...."

Beautiful and well-directed speech. I'll watch for the replay also to see if I can catch all of it without interruption.

Were these things not the case, I'd love for a man like him to be VP or P. He's simply awesome!

9. angryblackman you need to go back to freerepublic
and personally I don't think you are any more black than I am. As far as Senator Byrd being in the KKK, I think the man has more than made up for his mistake for being part of the KKK. Several of my family members WERE members of the KKK years and years and years ago, but they were raised to think they were above the black people same as Senator Byrd was. But they and Senator Byrd also realized it was wrong how black people were treated and once realizing this they did every thing they could to help the black people to have the same rights and respect as us white citzens. Personally I GREATLY admire Senator Byrd and my family members for having the sense to see the KKK for what it was and for getting the hell away from the Klan and for fighting for ALL citizens to have the same rights!
ELECT KERRY 2004!!!!

10. I think the problem is that...
Byrd never publicly apologized for his affiliation with the Klan. Also, when he used the term "white nigger" on Faux, alot of folks felt that his racist past was showing. However, upon searching the web, I found that conservative shills such as Michelle Malkin are the ones responsible for keeping his checkered past alive. I have even seen them question his sanity.

As a WV resident, I have seen that Byrd has done much for this state as well as this country, and while I am not going to give Byrd a pass for his racist history, I refuse to pillory the man who called his Klan association: "the biggest regret of his life".
