Is there anyone here at DU NOT aware of what the worst song of all time is
We've only posted the link about 200 times but the song is "we've built this city" by Starship (aka Jefferson Airplane/Jeffersoon Starship).

I'm hoping we can all memorize this fact to heart so we don't have to see any more threads about it

Thank you for this public service announcement here at DU

1. Isn't it funny how a song that was so popular
is now considered the worst song ever. Is it one of those things that you look back and think "What was I thinking"!

However, if the song came on the radio right now, how many of us would catch ourselves singing along to it.

4. And how many would break a leg, falling over themselves
in a panic to turn the station RIGHT NOW!

Frankly, I think "Nothing's Gonna Stop Us Now" is a much worse song.

12. What about when you are in the grocery store or
somewhere were you can't get to the radio, and your mind is preoccupied on what you are doing. Don't you ever catch yourself singing along to songs you swear you hate?

6. Starship was going to play that song for the Stanley Cup winners
during the Flyers vs. Detroit NHL Champsionship games.

Probably the only bright side of losing the Stanley Cup was that we didn't get stuck with the Starship Concert

Nothing more than ... :puke:

I was watching the Gong Show the time that every contestant but the last one sang that song. I'm scarred for life.

10. No matter what people say, I think "Abracadabra" by Steve Miller
is still the worst collection of chords and notes ever penned to paper for the purpose of selling to the lemming consumers of corporate piffle.

And you will never convince me otherwise. No matter what some egg-headed criti-geek says.

Nyeh.

17. I agree.
ANYTHING by Steve Miller belongs on that list.

"Rockin' Me Baby," is so bad, even that Hung guy sounds better.

11. They just mentioned this on public radio
They noted how the lyrics criticize commercialism, but the song just oozes commercialism! I don't care, I still like the sound. Then again, I like ABBA, too.

Ha ha, you missed me (I ducked in time).

14. Well, let me ask a question.
Just what is it about that song that makes it the WORST one ever? I mean, it's kind of a crappy song, I'll grant you that. But worst ever? Why?

Is it because it's from the former Jefferson Airplane, and they should have known better? Plenty of former greats have sold out.

Is it the particular combination of chords, lyrics, vocals, etc? I've heard songs that are WAY worse!

Is it our collective shame and embarrassment as we remember the excesses of the 80's? I lived through disco and Farrah Fawcett hair! I've seen worse.

Is there a deeper meaning behind all of this? Can any of us really move forward, while this remains unresolved?

16. No. No. No.
LynneSin, I thought we settled this ages ago. The worst song of all time is "Top of the World" - The Carpenters.

70's sentimental dreck trumps 80's pop on any day of the week.

22. Bull....."Wipe out" or "Louie, Louie"
make "We built this city" look like "Giant Steps" (by John Coltrane)

Christ...I played in groups for 16 years, worked for CBS studios and
have NEVER, EVER met a decent musician that would even play shit like
"WipeOut" ....and Louie, Louie?....the Guitar player (I use the term loosely) couldn't even get the number of bars in the solo right!
What a POS. (end of Rant)
