Best PC Games Ever
Who makes your list...

Here are some of mine:

Simcity (original version)
Transport Tycoon
Railroad Tycoon
Star Control 1,2,3
Pharaoh
Darklands
Dungeon Keeper 1,2
Ad&D (Gold box games)
Third Reich
Creatures 1,2,3 (and Docking Station)
Pirates! (Gold)
Civilization

Notice, I didn't include 3d shooters... My pesonal likes don't extend to that area. I also don't really like fighting games either...

1. Those are some good ones
I'll add:

Half-Life--only because it has proven to be so versatile--Day of Defeat is my favorite mod ... you can visit the clan I was part of founding here, www.generalsoflegend.us

Civilization 1 & 3
System Shock 2
Grim Fandango--beautiful graphics, neat story
TES III: Morrowind--my god, how much of my life that one sucked away!
Baldur's Gate
Syberia
Age of Empires, all of them

I'm going to toss in Theif as well, only because it really redefined the FPS from run-n-gun to something much more sophisticated.

My current fav is Call of Duty--I do like the FPS myself. :)

4. My list:
Edited on Wed Apr-21-04 05:16 AM by JaySherman
Baldur's Gate I & II
Betrayal at Krondor
The Wizardry Series
Lords of the Realm I & II
Front Page Sports: Football Pro 98
Unreal Tournament
Daggerfall
Warcraft II
Civilizations II
Age of Empires I & II

Heavy on the RPG's and strategy. The Baldur's Gate games are the greatest EVER imo. UT was the only shooter I ever enjoyed. Football Pro was one of the most underrated games ever made.

5. For those that like FPS games . . . .
I HIGHLY recommend giving Far Cry a try. . . I've been PC gaming since the earliest days of Doom, and Far Cry is by far the best FPS game I've ever played (and no, I don't work for the company) :).

7. interesting
The makers are currently being cheered as the "1st German game programmers who made it". I personally disagree, but most other successful German teams/designers had to emigrate before getting successful (Factor 5 (Console SW games), Guide Henkel (Planescape)...).

Well, I haven't picked up Farcry, because my PC is not exactly a gaming machine; Farcry would not install on it with all the developer tools present.
It is quite ironic: despite being under investigation for pirated software, Crytek chose to include copy protection that keeps a lot of honest gamers from playing the game.

32. farcry was great.. but
the ending 5% is waaaay, waaaay over the top difficult. I played on normal difficulty and the game was about right in difficulty until the very end where it was literally impossible to finish without cheating.

16. Asheron's Call
At its peak I believe it was the best PC game I've ever played. Its still quite a good game, just not as many people playing now. I enjoy the social aspect, which is what made AC so much better than other MMORPGs.

Also:

XCOM UFO Defense
Warcraft
Starcraft
Civ 1
Quake

I'm not a shooter fan, but Quake did play well multiplayer. It was also a groundbreaking multiplayer title.

33. Yeah, Dungeon Keeper 1 was awesome
Edited on Wed Apr-21-04 02:48 PM by Ratty
Didn't care so much for the sequel though. I bought the official expansion pack plus played a TON of user created maps. Ancient Keeper alone kept me busy for months. But my favorite top ten games of all-time are, in roughly their order of greatness and personal favoritude:

1. Thief 1 & 2
2. Elder Scrolls Arena & Daggerfall
3. Dungeon Keeper 1
4. Heretic
5. Duke Nukem 3D
6. Lands of Lore
7. Deus Ex
8. Myst
9. No One Lives Forever 1
10. Starcraft

I generally only like first person shooters, but two RTS's made my top-ten list anyway.

Edit: Do'h! Forgot System Shock 2 and Halflife. Those should be up there someplace too.

34. KOTOR
...Knights of the Old Republic...only RPG with replay value, IMHO. Besides, mind tricking people into giving you all their money and into killing each other? Come on. ;)

Also enjoyed:
Neverwinter Nights/Shadows of Undrentide/Hordes of the Underdark
Warcraft III
Diablo/Diablo II
Final Fantasy 7-8 (squaresoft is still slightly overrated imho)
Civilization (1,2,3)
Sid Meier's Alpha Centauri
Rise of Nations
Dungeon Siege

And, for the SNES:
Breath of Fire 1 and 2
Lufia 1 and 2
Bahamut Lagoon
Chrono Trigger
Final Fantasy 5 and 6

35. Here's my list...
Mostly FPS and RTS. First, the first-person shooters.

Wolfenstein 3d - the grandaddy of them all. Sure, there were one or two earlier games that could be classed as FPS, but none of them were as influential as Wolfenstein.

Doom - the birth of multiplayer deathmatch.

Quake - introduced hi-res graphics, a professional-quality soundtrack, and up to 16-player connectivity over IP.

Half-Life - Still the greatest first-person shooter. Amazing graphics, for its time, that don't look too bad today; immersive sci-fi storyline; basis for mods like Counterstrike and Day of Defeat.

Unreal Tournament - took the concepts of Doom and Quake and kicked things up a notch, with much more detailed environments, a much greater range of weaponry, and hyper-detailed graphics.

Medal of Honor Allied Assault - Forget Return to Castle Wolfenstein; forget Call of Duty; forget Battlefield 1942. This is still the best of the WWII FPS games. Combining immersive cinematic storytelling and a greater level of historical realism than any other game in this genre, it has yet to be surpassed, over two years after its release (but look for Medal of Honor: Pacific Assault to raise the bar again).

Third person shooter:

Grand Theft Auto 3/GTA Vice City - GTA3 was cool, but a little thin, lacking in character development. THe idea reached full flower in Vice City (and San Andreas should take it further; have to wait till next year to find out, though).

Hitman 2 Silent Assassin - Stealth strategy that puts you in the shoes of a genetically modified assassin, to carry out hits on targets in locations all over the world. Fairly open-ended gameplay, excellent level design, and different enough from most of the other games out there to really stand out.

Real time strategy:

Warcraft 2

Starcraft

Warcraft 3
