and added 5 more.

I was amazed that "Milwaukee's Best" is in the top 10! Ecch.

It also amazed me that Bud sells so well. It's piss.

And I'd rathher drink half as much and enjoy it than drink crap beer. But then again, college IS all about quantity...

6. In college I was ridiculed
My roommates would tear into me for "wasting money" on two four-packs of Guinness, rather than buy a case of Busch Light as they did.

Well, it got me just as drunk, since they drank basically beer flavored water all night. And it tasted a hell of a lot better.

Quality makes up for quanity anyday. But most drunk college kids will never understand that, until they graduate.

74. Guinness is less potent than Busch Light
Guinness actually has the less alcohol as busch light...

So you couldn't get just as drunk on less beer...

104. Not by my math.
Edited on Fri Apr-23-04 05:49 PM by Nailzberg
Men A & B buy a case of Busch Light (12 12oz cans a piece)
I buy two four packs of Guinness (8 16oz cans)

While A & B drink 6 cans of Busch a piece, I have consumed 4 cans of Guinness.

A & B's stomachs both force the retched horse piss from their stomachs. They have only had time to absorb the alcohol content equivalent to 1 can apiece.

The stomach of our third subject, me, is quite satisfied with the tasty Guinness, and absorbs the full alcohol content of my 4 cans.

This repeats.

That's why you get more out of your good beers.

.

Canadian Bud is brewed by Labatt's here in Canada

(I remind guys up here that downgrade bud saying that "Blue" is better than that bud "piss" - Blueis also ade by Labatt's)

Oh, and our Bud has 5% alcohol.

A bit more "kick' than the American bud.

of course, our "BC" bud has more "kick" than US bud too!

39. Fosters is actually Australian for "Crap"
As an Aussie, I have to say that Fosters is the worst of the Australian beers.

Not too many in Australia drink it, hence the reason they export it around the world, I guess.

But really I like smaller breweries.

Sweetwater Brewing here in Atlanta makes a very tasty Porter.

the local brewery, rather than some giant factory.

For me, those are
Redhook, especially the hefe-weizen http://www.redhook.com/
Portsmouth Brewery, especially the weizenheimer and Black Cat Stout http://www.portsmouthbrewery.com/

Sadly, since I've been on the Atkins diet, I've had to cut my consumption from "once in a while" to "once in a great while."

23. I can't pick a best.
There are just too many fine beers. And what tastes best to me on one day may not be the same on the next day. Right now, my day-in, day-out preference is Allagash White, a Belgian-style white beer. Tastes much like the gold standard Hoegaarden, an actual Belgian white, but it's local, and so, fresher. Less pricey also.

Other fine choices include Sam Adams, imported Loewenbrau (not that piss from Miller) light or dark, anything from Dogfish Head, and others too numerous to name.

Good baltic porter or imperial stouts would place a close fourth after wheat (sp. bavarian hefeweizen of belgian wit. You can keep your nasty american wheat...)

35. Bud...
I guess drinking a standard beer is not the "in" thing to do, but I will drink a Bud, Bud light or other beers like that well before I would drink any lagers, darks, malts or any other "exotic" beers. That's just my taste though. It has nothing to do with the cost. I just could never develop a taste for the bitter taste of a lot of the beers mentioned here.
To each their own, and I wouldn't say anything about what other people enjoy when it comes to their beers. Drink up, kick back and enjoy what ya like.

43. A lot of the beers i like aren't so bitter.
Hefeweizen typically has less bitterness than american light lager, as does belgian wit.

Many of the heavier beers have more bitterness, but also have so much malty sweetness that you don't notice it.

49. First 6 options don't even qualify as Beer
...and the last 3 are watered down versions of their European originals.

Guinness gets my vote for "big label" beers, even though it also is a weakened version of the Irish original.

Usually prefer a regional microbrew these days. Or if I want it fresh from the tap, I go here:

59. I must point out that that is poor form in the arena of beer.
You are never supposed to tell anyone that their beer choice sucks. The proper thing to do is offer them one that you think is better and bring them around to good beer through kindness. After all, we are not wine snobs.

taster of this Wolaver Pale Ale. There you go. Good isn't it? I knew you'd like it. Here have a pint on me!

How's that?

89. As I said earlier, I started with the top-selling brands, not my favorites
Out of these, I only really like Hinie, St. Pauli, and Michelob.

The poll was about standard American beers, not dark beers, ales, stouts, etc.

I've gotten so much input from beer snobs, I just gave up on participating.

"I'm too good for swill like that. I drink ONLY McGillicuddy Soap Factory Microbrew #7"

I've had some dark beers that were okay. None of them hits the spot like good old American beer. I'm amazed at how few people have come forward to defend these "pisswater brands" After all, they all outsell the dark beers and microbrews far and away.

103. sorry
Rolling Rock is good from that standpoint. And I have drunk a few Heinekins in my day.

It is just that I drank a lot of the typical beers in my youth and now cannot abide most of them. And I don't drink a lot, so I want something new and interesting and very flavorful when I do. So I love all the stouts, porters, ales, wheats, microbrews. Those beers spoil one for the other stuff. And if that is being a beer snob, oh well. :)

67. I'm an amature wine snob. A full blown coffee snob and have been called
a beer snob. And I think cat urine is too good for these choices.

However I see JVS's point.

I used to live in Redding, CA. and they had a beer from that area (Eureka, I think) called Great White. It has a slight citrus taste or something. Best I've ever had!!!

I am a member of the Campaign for Real Ale when all's said and done. :-)

My current favourite is Blanchfield Raging Bull but I'm also fond of Barnsley Bitter, Black Sheep, Mighty Oak Maldon Gold, Gales Winter Brew, most old ales and milds, not to mention Continental brews such as Erdinger and Paulaner.

It's hard to find, and costly. Made by Trappist monks in Belgium. They have three main beers....a red, a blue and a triple. Stuff starts at 7% and goes up to 9%.

It's like food...:)

90. I'm beginning to think these replies are mass-produced
"Old Speckled Hen or 6X or any IPA etc - real ale trumps all."
"Caffrey's - A REAL man's drink."
" Bass is best and microbreweries in general. - Four Peaks here has "Kiltlifter" a Scottish style ale that's pretty good."
"OH MY GOD EVERY ONE OF THOSE CHICES IS SWILL AT BEST! Ugh!!!
Those "beers" give beer a bad wrap! (sic) Guinness, ...(lots of obscure brands)..., hell even Sam Adams.I might drink a Heinie if there's nothing else."
"Agreed. Delano, you need to try some real beer. None of the beers in your poll is fit to be the piss of a homebrewer."
"Amen to that - UGHH!!! Man St Pauli Girl is the quivalent of chilled carbonated badger piss!"

And on and on and on.

It was a simple poll to rate AMERICAN-STYLE BEERS, but nothing but snotty comments, mostly including the word "piss". Do dark beer/microbrew aficionados get some sort of superiority kick by drinking that stuff?

I've tried quite a few dark beers, and NONE of them are as delicious and refreshing as a St. Pauli's or an Asahi Super Dry, at least to my palate. But I wouldn't go out of my way to attack others for "having lousy taste and drinking beer that tastes like castor oil"

Whatever.

95. Why the "St Pauli Girl" option?
It is fake - there is no German beer "St Pauli Girl". It might be brewed in Germany, but it is an American beer.
And the label is so obvious, a Bavarian woman serving a beer brewed in Bremen, while name of the beer implies Hamburg :wtf:
It is sad that almost all German beers available in the US are in Germany what Bud is in the US. Especially Beck's (noticed the English apostrophe?) and Wahrsteiner are what Bud and Miller are stateside. Spaten is another story: it is not present as a brand outside Bavaria.
