1. Immediately the Bauhaus tune pops into my head
and then his portrayal in "Ed Wood".

2. Lets just say the same thing happened to me tonight....
So I had to post on it. I'm not doing so much political posting these days, so you have to let people know you're alive and ok, if you know what I mean. ;-)

6. Ain't that the shit....
He didn't even know English when he filmed Dracula...I find that remarkable.

10. Very remarkable
However, I must disagree with you about knowing English. He had lived in the US for a little over 10 years by the time he made Dracula. He had even placed Dracula on broadway for 33 weeks in the late 20's.

What I find amazing though is he organized an Actor's union in post WWI Austro-Hungary and was associated with the Communist party there. Because of this, he was placed on an list of people to be arrested which in turn caused him to immigrate to Vienna then Germany then to the US.

14. Really?
The sources I've read said he had been doing Dracula on stage in the EU and then was asked to do it in the US. I'm not saying you're wrong--in fact, I'm probably wrong. I just had been extra-impressed with the idea of Bela doing a role phonetically (sp?), it just sounds like something he could have done.

5. I watched a documentary on his life once...
...it was freaking depressing.

Ed Wood popped into my mind too.

7. Our favorite kitty's name...
Was Bela Blasko. (Which was Bela Lugosi's real name.)

Poor Bela left us a little over a year ago.

We'll always miss him.

9. I wish that I still had that shirtless beefcake picture of Bela...
(circa late 1920s) because it just looked so damn freaky!

11. Lana Turner
said he was the sexiest man she had ever known.

(I think it was her, could be wrong)

Let's see William Henry Pratt top _that_.

15. Lana thought he was sexier than Johnny Stomp???!!!
That is something :)

But Karloff was Frank Sinatra's acting teacher for years. Strange, but true...

13. Bela Lugosi's Dead
White on white translucent black capes
Back on the rack
Bela Lugosi's dead
The bats have left the bell tower
The victims have been bled
Red velvet lines the black box
Bela Lugosi's dead
Undead undead undead
The virginal brides file past his tomb
Strewn with time's dead flowers
Bereft in deathly bloom
Alone in a darkened room
The count
Bela Logosi's dead
Undead undead undead
