Who decides what is politically correct at DU, and what is not?
Does the majority decide, or is it a rabidly vocal minority? Your thoughts?

Just because they're in the minority doesn't automatically enoble them.

If the wishes of the majority are all that matters, then everyone who is non-white, non-Christian, and non-heterosexual had better get fitted for a yellow star.

14. The "b" word
Edited on Tue Apr-20-04 07:14 PM by DinoBoy
Has never been in the same class as the "f" word and the "n" word, and any other word you're comparing to.

You're seeing offense where there is none.

Like it's been said over and over, 99.9999999% of times the "b" word refers to "an irritable, rude, or mean person (who may be a man or woman, and may or may not have a penis) who acts in that manner simply to bother others."

45. That's not the question though is it?
Like I've been saying over and over and over again, there is no offense implied in the "b" word 99.999999% of the times that it's used.

As a verb it means to complain, as a noun it's a man or woman who is rude or mean or difficult only to bother people.

That's pretty clear to 86% of DUers, and I am not sure why it's NOT clear to the remaining 14%.

If someone says, "I wanna make Ben Affleck my bitch," I would ABSOFRIGGINGLUTELY be the first to alert.

But saying, "I want to bitch about Ben Affleck," or "That Ben Affleck, he can sure be a bitch sometimes.."

Isn't meant to emasculate him or compare him to a woman, nor is it meant to be offensive towards women, or even meant to be more than mildly offensive to Ben Affleck.

Edited on Tue Apr-20-04 07:18 PM by Lizz612
The vocal minority get represented by getting threads, posted by the majority, it doesn't like locked. Thats its power. The majority has size on its side, and it can throw its weight around by posting lots of threads. The majority will be tempered in the long run by all these locked threads, but it takes a long time and dedication, and the ability of the minority to pick its fights wisely.

And the mods just fight the fires, we love the mods. :loveya: mods!
