Comedy Central's top 100 stand-ups
did anybody see any of comedy central's top 100 stand up countdown?
Bill Hicks at #19 ranked below Ellen Degeneres? This is an outrage. Hand me my torch.
it also seemed that any and all comics currently affiliated with Comedy Central had suspiciously high rankings (Colin Quinn at #56? bullcrap. he blows. worst SNL news anchor ever, for starters)

1. I'm With Ya
Although i'm a big Ellen fan, and thought she deserved a high ranking, higher than Bill Hicks was just not right.

I did pick 8 of the top ten, but not in the right order. I did have Carlin and Pryor #2 and #1, though. Just guessed right.

2. Hicks is in my top five, personally
I was disappointed that he was #19, but I think that maybe he wasn't higher on this list because he's relatively unknown here in America (that's a damn shame, too...you know we can't even buy videos or DVDs of his performances in America? I've been looking for the uncut version of "It's Just a Ride" and his "Revelations" performance, but they're not available here in the US).

3. Hey, to each their own

be happy hicks was even on the list - I checked your thread expecting him not to be there.

#19 is still giving the guy props. He died young and was relatively well known.

4. Colin Quinn was ranked #56 of ALL TIME?
That's a joke, right?

Not very funny, but that's GOTTA be a joke.

Colin Quinn is one of the most spectacularly UNFUNNY people around.

5. I agree. Hicks should be higher. One of my favorites.
I'd probably have put him #3 on that list.

6. DEnnis MILLER at #21?!? Not even when he was FUNNY!
Wow, this list sucks as much as a Bushevik Governmental Report of Lies!

7. So who was number 1?
If you'd rather not be a spoiler, send it to my inbox. I saw the first two segments, but have missed the subsequent instalments.

Hicks rules, btw... I especially enjoyed his riff about crime in England
"No one knows what its like, to be a dust-bin... in Shaftsbury... with hooligans..."

10. 1. Richard Pryor - 2. George Carlin
Not meaning to be racist or anything, I have a strong suspicion that it would have been reversed if RP wasn't as ill as he is.

Richard Pryor is funnier than hell. But I just thought George Carlin was funnier than Pryor.

8. I agreed with their top 2 though.
Pryor
Carlin

I tried not to get too worked up about the position on the list, just that people I liked were included.

Now...no Carlos Mencia??? THAT'S a problem! :D

9. i was glad to even see hicks on there.
i was thinking they might not even include him. I am sure several factors went into the decisions, ultimately it is all opinion. i just look at the list as a "100 top comedians in particular order" list. who can judge comedy? who can ultimately dictate how the list should go. i ended up watching pretty much the whole series friday when it ran and i enjoyed it. i could do with out the actual numbering of comedians.

11. Dennis Miller and Colin Quinn baffled me, too
I've never found either of them very funny, and both were SNL news anchors, too, interestingly enough.

The only thing remotely funny about Miller is the impression that Dana Carvey did of him on the SNL news, once. Damn, it was dead on-- even down to Dana playing with his Miller-mullett! Fanfreakintastic!

BTW I didn't catch the whole thing, did Carvey make it onto the list? I remember catching him back in the mid-80s around the same time the Church Lady broke, and he was hilarious. He did all his characters and finished up with ten minutes of just the church lady. Damn that was good!
