26 years on.....Elvis has left the building
August 16, 1977.

Though, as Mojo Nixon reminded us all, he's still everywhere you look and listen...

2. I was only twelve years old, but I vividly remember
exactly where I was when I heard about his death. My family and I were on vacation in the Black Hills in South Dakota, our usual place, and were visiting Mount Rushmore. We were in the cafeteria, the windows of which overlook the faces, and one of the workers suddenly started crying. Didn't you hear, she asked, Elvis Presley just died. My parents were shocked, given that he was only 42. Everyone there just seemed to stop and stare at everyone else. My stepsister and I, being only 12, couldn't really understand what all the fuss was about!

5. I didn't know much about him then, either
but it was One of Those Moments. And then John Lennon - seemed like it was so long after, at least to me, but it was just over three years later.

3. I saw Elvis
in the potato I boiled for last night's dinner.

It was a sign.

"Elvis died when he joined the Army."
