Fellow Canadians - what do you think of the Queen.

I know a lot of people like the tradition and all that jazz, but I've never been into it. I went to an elementary school yesterday and they had the picture of her up in the hallway. ANd underneath it said "Her Majesty the Queen of Canada"
"Queen of Canada?" I thought, what the hell is that about?

1. Queen of Canada is part of her title.

That way we maintain the monarchy and distinquish ourselves as independent from Britain.

Frankly I don't care about the monarchy at all.

Keep it, lose it; makes no difference to me.

2. To the surprise of absolutely no one, I want rid of them all.

I would move them all to a council house in the East End of Glasgow and turn the palaces over to the nation. I would as a special punishment make Prince Philip live in a multi-cultural GLBT Socialist commune.

On a serious note, Canada should cut it's ties to this foreign monarchy as soon as possible. It may well help our constant constitutional problems by forcing a re-evaluation of our nation's structure. Are we still technically a Dominion? Even with a repatriated constitution (thanks, Pierre), I think that is still the official name of the country.

7. A LIITTLE Gin and Tonic

The Queen and Queen Mother often used to polish off a bottle of Gin together in one sitting.
I can imagine the conversations.

Queen: You know, mummy, you're the besht Sovereign and <hic>Def..Defender of the Faith I've ever known.

Queen Mum: No, YOU are! Whersh the bloody footman, I'm bereft of <hic> ish cubes.

4. Here's her official title

In Canada, where the Queen is the Head of State, her official title is "Elizabeth the Second, by the Grace of God, of the United Kingdom, Canada and Her other Realms and Territories Queen, Head of the Commonwealth, Defender of the Faith."

So, I guess "Queen of Canada" is a short form, although I haven't seen it before, either.
