1. Cruelty denotes a lack of empathy

All of the other traits make someone all too human and can be forgiven. Of course cruelty is too but it's much harder to forgive.

2. The one thing they all have in common is...
...selfishness.

The key to morality is the realization that you are not the center of the universe.

3. Pride/"Unerring Self-Righteousness"
all of them contain selfishness, but pride is the only condition that can easily justify the action of all the rest AND NEVER be repentant.

everything else can be forgiven... except for the person who never seeks forgiveness and will point blank refuse to change his ways. it is the most dangerous condition.

also it can form a cult of personality that'll attract others to cruel and depraved acts that they'd normally never do, except under the guidance of one who TRULY BELIEVES it is right. it has greater potential for mass destruction. all one has to do is look at history. what did the world's greatest villains share as the binding point for all their monstrous activities? the belief that they are right and they deserve it.

selfishness is the impulse, pride is the logic/faith, cruelty, gluttony, theft, and all the rest are just the results...

5. My mother shares a trait with Dumbya.
She will never admit she's made a mistake. So she fits into the "unerring self-righteousness" category. It makes me very sad because it's hard to forgive her.

Lately she's made an effort to understand some of my illnesses and I appreciate it, but she still never says she's sorry when she does something wrong. It's a worry.

6. Other: irresponsibility
I absolutely CANNOT STAND people who do not take responsibilty for their own actions, especially when those actions hurt others. Drives me out of my mind. Irresponsibility is far and away my #1 pet-peeve.

Explains why I hate Republicans and freepers so much.

7. IMO lying is the worst sin in the world.
Edited on Fri Apr-16-04 03:50 AM by BullGooseLoony
Yes, worse than murder.

There are, of course, exceptions to the rule. But in most cases lying, denying the truth, is the worst possible thing a person can do.

8. Letting someone starve.
Or coding for only IE. Both are fucked-up.
