i'm getting this error message when i try to "upload your own" avatar:

Error: There was a discrepancy found in your identification for uploading images to the server. Please back out of the user menu and try again.

51. Are you saving the image to your disk?

The upload feature uploads from your hard drive, not the internet. Some people make this mistake, ignore if this isn't your problem. :hi:

remember where you save it, and the file name
go to "upload your own avatar"
browse for the file you just saved
upload it with proper file extension (should be .gif)
stick in the personal/"number they give you".gif
should work

17. Right-click on your choice, Save Picture As...

Then back out to the Lobby, scroll up to the top, choose Options, then Change my Profile, then upload the file from your hard drive (remembering the filename from when you saved it a moment ago), and change your avatar filename to what it says in the instructions there.

THEN you have to dump your Internet files and when you next visit DU the new avatar should be there.

25. Won't mess anything up. If you're using Intenet Explorer

pull down the Tools menu, choose Internet Options, and on the window that pops up choose Delete Files under Temporary Internet Files. I also checked the box for Delete All Offline Content just to be on the safe side, but don't know if this is necessary.

If you're not using Internet Explorer, you'll have to ask again specifying which program you're using and some other fine DUer will come to the rescue. :)
