These A$$holes make me sick...
The mako shark usually breeds when it is around 150 pounds, which is a young adult. The regulations in NC allow a person to keep a Mako at 55 inches, which is a very juvenile fish, definietley smaller than 150 pounds.

Given the rate of reproduction of these sharks and their dangerously low population, assholes like this who keep these tiny makos make me sick. (according to fishbase.org, the minimum population doubling time is at least 14 years Link)

OK, fishing boat captains...that may be a legal fish as far as regulations are concerned, but that doesn't mean you have to keep it. Catch and release practices are very instumental in helping fish populations reach larger, healthier sizes...

1. Are you sure thats a mako?
Im looking at the tail, but I cant tell. The other three are yellowfin's (tuna).

Where did you get this picture? Im not into sharks but Im big on conservation, especially offshore stocks. I have a few friends on both coasts who would like to see this.

2. Check out the caudal keel on the caudal base
I pulled this picture off a East Coast fishing discussion page where its members were expressing their disgust at keeping such juvenile fish.

3. Here's a link to the original website.
The picture here is the last one listed in "more images".

Seems that two mako were caught (one was 100 pounds).

5. The fishermen in my family often throw back their catches
They figure it will be fun to catch the fish again next time.

6. I only practice catch and keep about one time a year...
There's no sense in me killing more fish when the fish market has them for sale.
