What to do with an old computer?

You know the one? That 486/33 IBM Clone that's been collecting dust in the garage for 10 years and can't even function as a decent word processor anymore. Your local charity won't even take it.

1. Hell, i just load linux on it and make it a router

This may make you want to break your Windows CDs in the manners above when you realize that a 486 wiht a decent OS can actually still be useful!

2. Take out the hard drive . . .

. . . and throw it in a deep lake.

3. What you do is this. . . .

Get yourself an electrical cord from an old device of some sort. Keeping the plug intact and as long as possible, strip the other end so you have positive and negative wires available.

Wire those to areas of your choice on the motherboard in the old computer (soldering may be required).

Plug that baby in and watch the show :).

6. Pop a PXES boot CD in it and...

...use it as an Xterminal for the main Linux Box. Couldn't be easier.

7. See if your local govt. has an electronics disposal site,

such as exists in the Twin Cities

See if your city has a recycling program.

8. Cut its social security benefits

raise the cost of prescription drugs ...

block competitively priced drug imports from Canada ...

stick it in a nursing home with untrained or poorly trained staff ...

block the cost of funerals as a tax deduction ...

allow hospital costs to take away your life savings ...

fail to help develop a culture that reveres the wisdom that some gain with aging ...

12. Try and recycle it somehow...like leave it on the stores front door

where you bought it and tell them to get rid of the six month old obsolete monster. (in a environmentally sound way of course)
