It happened to James Carville and Mary Matalin.

I had a philosophy professor who told me that if there was any philosopher whose work could be discredited, Ayn Rand was that philosopher.

10. I did....
I almost married a young lady in the mid-eighties who had very conservative (politically) values and it really didn't help or hinder us at all. It was simply one of those things we disagreed on more often than not.

I mean, c'mon... she was bright, educated, attractive, humorous, lady-like and sweet. I was suppose to say, "Yeah, that's all swell and everything, but you voted for Reagan in '84, so I think we're gonna have to call the whole thing off...."?

19. No!
Dated one ... ONCE.

I'll NEVER do that again. I have to have something in common (when it comes to basics) with someone that I am just friends with* ... oh, hell no would I marry someone who I couldn't even be friends with!

*I have friends who are somewhat more conservative. We generally talk about anything relating to politics and more everyday life stuff (kids, homes, hubbies, school, etc.). Variety is the spice of life, it is true, but generally freeps don't have minds that are open to anything and a closed mind is a huge turn-off.

20. I know a couple like that.
The guy is a Vietnam Vet, as well as a right-winger and fundy Christian. The lady is a liberal agnostic. I don't understand how they could stay married.

I sat by the lady on a bus trip to our choir concert and we discussed the current political situation. She's one of the few liberal people I know in this county. All the libs I know are associated with the local college. Hmmmmmm...this could mean something, don't you think?

Anyway, she said that lately, she's finding it really hard to like Republicans. I nodded and told her I felt the same way about Republicans, as well as fundy Christians. Before they had any real power, I could laugh and think, "Isn't that cute? John has an invisible friend." Now that they have power, now that their policies are robbing us blind and destroying other nations, it isn't so cute anymore. I'm finding myself appalled. And so is she.

She told me that her husband had recently said, "I want to believe like you, but I just can't." Another time he said, "If I didn't believe in God and some sort of afterlife, I wouldn't want to live." I think he's heavily into denial and wishful thinking. He was wounded twice in Vietnam, saw some pretty horrible things, no doubt. Maybe he needs to feel that it was all for something. Maybe the sense of betrayal would be too much for him to handle at this point in his life should he realize Bu$hCo isn't all it's cracked up to be.

It pissed me off when I figured it out. I even went through an "I hate America" phase. Most of that is out of my system and now I only want to rectify what's wrong. We may not be the greatest nation in the world, but we're not the worst, either...yet. :( Unfortunately, our power makes us likely candidates for the worst nation ever if we don't fix things in a hurry.

22. depends on her personality
Some conservatives and Republicans are good people. They are over-shadowed by the loud ass-clowns so its easy to assume they are all greedy fascists.

hmm...It's a recipe for some fearsome arguments if you're into that kind of stuff.

I would need to be with someone who holds a value system more or less in line with mine. Beliefs don't have to be identical,(that would be boring), but at least in the same neighborhood.

And I happen to be desperate.:evilfrown:

Edited on Mon Apr-12-04 02:40 AM by LastKnight
and i have hate for a few far right wingers out there...

i suppose its possible. unprobable, but possible.

i dobut id get as far as 'love' anyway with a right extreamist, but stranger things have happened.

if it was somone who had an open mind and considered listening to another point of view (IE open to possibly changing thier opnion) they might have a chance, but this hypothetical right wing girl is starting to sound liberal with the whole open mind thing. lol

36. Do others here find Ann Coulter attractive?
Because I understand how someone might find her attractive, but, to me, she is just totally repulsive.

I had the misfortune of encountering her writing before I saw her picture. Then I kept hearing about how "hot" she is and when I finally saw her I thought, "Nasty."

So I guess I could never love a repug or a fundie. Though I do have many republican/conservative friends--but all of them are good-natured folks with a sense of humor and no delusions of how bad Bush is.
