The Lord Protector is going to make a speech about Space next week, and yet it's all over the news now (top story on CNN and ABC websites, and look how much people on DU are talking about it). There were rumours about him announcing this at the 100th anniversary of the Wright brothers' flight - but he didn't need it that week (Saddam had just been captured).

So they need to distract attention from something today. Either the combined 'WMDs were made of fairy dust' report/withdrawal of weapons hunting team news had them worried, or something that's about to happen that's bigger still.

5. Can I call this an analogy

Bush's America is a horrible mess. A war that 50% support and 50% oppose. Unemployment is down (but much less than expected), yet few jobs were created. The weakening dollar and huge personal and national debt are dragging us to an abyss.

It's a car wreck! When Bush then shouts "Off to Mars!" it's like the unharmed driver of a fatal car wreck announcing "lets all go to "Return of the King" to bystanders. Another sign that MAD GOP Diseases is infecting this country.

think this announcement is going to play nearly as well as Rove seems to think it will. With a massive deficit, continuous "war", cuts to social programs, and unemployment troubles, the American public may just see this as an expensive and unnecesssary diversion.
