Henry Ford receives a medal from the Nazi government.


Ford and their German subsidiary, Fordwerke, worked in accordance with German racial theories, and tried to gain the trust and help of a German government that was suspicious of foreign companies. The first thing that helped Fordwerke was Hitler’s immense admiration for Henry Ford; he even kept a picture of Ford in his office. Fordwerke used forced laborers from Eastern Europe, the Soviet Union, France, and Italy, and slave laborers provided by the SS from the camps, at their Cologne plant between 1941 and 1945 (Reich 2).
