The media keeps spouting about the $200+Millions he has in his war chest.

It seems to me they are saying he can BUY the election.

People are dying of starvation, the homeless numbers have exploded under this regime. Deficits of 1/2 a Trillion Dollars and we are supposed to be impressed because the emporer has all this money to buy the WH?

I for one, think it's obscene. Anyone else see the detriment to this??

There are some things money won't buy, I hope this election is one of them.

1. I don't think it will necessarily hurt him....
but I also don't think it will help him as much as some people think.

2. Follow the money.................
see where it all comes from. Corporate donors. I'd make a campaign issue from that tidbit of information. Who really runs this country, the people or industry? If enough people see how tightly entwined Bush is with the Lords of Capitalism, and they see that the Lords of Capitalism are still sending their jobs overseas, maybe they'll wake up the the fact that Bush is OWNED by these people, and couldn't care less about individual voters.

3. in some ways yes
everytime a person out of work or struggling to make ends meet, hears about another million dollar fundraiser....I'm sure it makes them sick. Why doesn't he have one of his rich TX Pioneer buds set up funds for folks that lost their jobs at Enron.

4. Nope
In a culture where the best 30 second commercial gets the vote.
People (most people, that is) could give a flip about the issues. That 30 seconds is the only info they see.

5. It will hurt him if we Democrats MAKE it hurt him, by seeing to it that
messages like yours are repeated over and over and over again by "talking heads" (do democrats even HAVE any talking heads) - or anybody we can get to help us fight our good fight.

6. The fact that his war chest
is so huge will roll off the backs of most people. It's why Howard Dean has opted out of the matching funds program, and is hoping to get 2 million people to each contribute $100 to his campaign so he can match that amount. I hope he does it.

Why that money matters so much is that what he's raising now must be spent during the primary campaign, and with no one running against him, he can spend every penny vilifying the Democrats, especially whoever becomes the nominee.

It may also be why the Republicans are having their convention so late, so that the money they raise to be used in the general campaign can be spread out over a much shorter time frame.

Much of the time the candidate with the most money to spend, wins. No matter who the nominee is, he's going to be the target of merciless ads questioning his fitness to be president, dredging up everything that resembles a mistake, telling all of us that we're treasonous for even considering voting for someone else. It's going to be important that the Democratic Party be able to counter all that.

7. You are I think
Remember the big scandal about how Clinton broke every fundraising record and how the republicans complained that he spent more time fundraising than running the country...well Bush makes Clinton look like he raised money from a lemonade stand and NO ONE is saying anything about it. Bush spends only 1 night a month sleeping at the WH and only spends part of every other day there, mainly because he is on vacation or fundraising. But no big scandal.

He has money to spare, and money is seen as two things. First it is speech, this means that the media will interpert the tautology If Bush has that much money he must have a lot of support, especially considering the new campaign finance rules they will say neglecting to mention how much of that was raised BEFORE the rules went into effect and how the republicans and democrats are getting around it. Secondly it is seen as an indicator, candidates as you all know are measured in the media eye based on polls, money, recent speeches and record. Well if Bush has that much money he's already the front-runner and therefore should win creating a self-fulfilling prophecy that the media constantly perpetuates.

Bush's money won't hurt him, becuase it has never hurt him and never will
