Fortune's "Ask Annie" predicts "The Job Market Is Getting Ready to Roar"
Fortune.com columnist "Ask Annie" quotes a headhunter poll: "72% of the headhunters polled believe the job market will get a lot brighter within six months, and 47% say they see it happening within three."

It's an odd and sometimes contradictory little article and the way that I knew it was actually written in 2004 is that "2004" appears three times. There are a few predictions that, given the current state of affairs, seem pretty impossible over the next 12 months...let alone 3.

On a lighter note, today was the twelve year anniversary of George Bush Senior's projectile vomiting into the lap of Japan's Prime Minister. It seems like only yesterday.

:wtf:

3. it could happen
The economists are predicting 4-5% GDP growth over the next year, Greenspan is keeping his interest rates at ultra-low below-inflation rates, and the government is spending money like a drunken sailor.

If you're willing to borrow tons of money, it's possible to make the economy grow. And Japan and China are perfectly willing to loan us as much money as we want. Japan loaned us $28 billion just this week, and loaned $200 billion over 2003, and Japan's prepared to loan us far more over 2004 if necessary.

So it would be shocking if jobs didn't start improving, at least somewhat.

I.T. is still probably hosed, though.

Which is fine, if you like working 60-80 hours a week, making $5.15 per hour at McDonalds or Wal*Mart.
