Paper trails for voting is essential for the true voice of the People.

Voting Machines sold to the Gov't made by Pub contributors...?

WTF is THAT?

Very lengthy article but a must read. Do yourself the favor and take the time/effort.

7. There it is, loud and clear, bush** can't win without cheating
This is the message the Dems need to get to the people. Would the freepers trust no paper trail if the shoe were on the other foot? No way!

I like the way Gore Vidal speaks. He knows the facts, he has conviction, he has courage. I'm reading a biography of Ben Franklin, and it's amazing what an influence he had on this country. Without Ben, America would have become something entirely different. Any Democratic nominee would be wise to study him well.

20. If I have to stop Nazi Germany from happening by cheating - I WILL!!
If these fascist bastards are already counting on completely undermining our democracy - to allow them to keep on attacking and destroying the rest of this planet, than I'll be damned if I'm gonna sit around refering to a rule book than no one is abiding by anymore! I don't like the thought of "cheating" anymore than you do - but when you say something like "I wouldn't want to win that way" - you seem to be implying that we're talking about losing something like a football game here! The stakes are just a little bit higher than that, folks! WWIII - worldwide environmental destruction - these are obviously catastrophes worth avoiding by any means!!!

"Do you not think of Bush and Ashcroft as Americans?

"I think of them as an alien army. They have managed to take over everything, and quite in the open. We have a deranged president. We have despotism. We have no due process."

Holy Cow. This gives a whole new meaning to "pulls no punches."

41. Sorry, but Vidal didn't say that. And he's wrong, in any case.
The Founding Fathers would have found this to be despotism in spades. And they would have hanged anybody who tried to get this through the Constitutional Convention in Philadelphia.

Oh, I see. The whole 'innocent until proven guilty' founding fathers would have strung someone up just for having introduced or suggested such legislation.

Shut up, Gore, your hyperbole grows wearisome.

45. The Plame story "resonates more than Iraq"
Edited on Fri Jan-02-04 05:56 PM by secondtermdenier
is the quote I most agree with, along with "90 percent of Americans don't know where Iraq is and never will know, and don't care". The Bush administration's open war with the "permanent, professional intelligence community" is an issue that everyday people can understand and are interested in because it makes them wonder about their own security. Sad as it may be, we can bomb far-off countries indefinitely and a lot of Americans will not raise an eyebrow as long as there is no "blowback", i.e. high American casualties, increased terror or terror alerts. I was glad to see Vidal point this out. "No blood for oil" was never my favorite slogan, because it seemed to presume the American people would be very disturbed by Arab civilian deaths. Many Americans are pretty bloodthirsty or at least not too big on empathy. I sadly think that, these days at least, in politics you have to always appeal to their immediate self-interest. Sorry, but I didn't make this country or world. Lastly, in this same world-weary vein, I will conclude by asking Vidal fans who may have been a bit tough on Sen. Kerry for his Iraq stance to consider Vidal's words.

46. Vidal is wrong, they wouldn't have hanged Bush
because he would have fled to Canada before the Revolution ended. He would have stolen as much money as he could carry, destroyed what he couldn't take, and funded the Brits in the War of 1812.

Oh, and Kennebunkport would be in Canada.
