West Coast DUers: Who's better, Ray Taliaferro or Bernie Ward?
I have mixed opinions. I think I like Bernie just a tad bit more than Ray. The reason? I think sometimes Ray unloads on people who don't quite deserve it. Yes, sometimes right wing nutjobs need a good ass whooping on the air, and both Bernie and Ray do that, but Ray will sometimes unload on a caller who has only a slight, trifling disagreement with him. Bernie Ward uses his attacks more sparingly, and he is more prone to just letting RW people makes fools out of themselves, which is more entertaining.

3. Bernie ward
Ray has said some slanted things when I was listening. A caller was talking about how the invasion will be of little consequence because in gulf war only a hundred or so soldiers were killed (he means US soldiers of course...). Ray said that there were 200,000 killed. The caller said sceptically, oh you mean from gulf war syndrome, which Ray then evaded answering. The point is that someone taking Ray's word as representing the truth would tend to think that there were 200,000 immediate US soldier deaths in the war.

Another thing was that Ray was being aggressive with a teenage girl who was asking intelligent but right wing questions. He would say things like "Okay, 17 year old girl, tell me how you have come to that brilliant conclusion." That's pretty insulting if you ask me.

4. I like Ray Taliaferro
I find his show much more entertaining and that's why I listen in at 1 and 2 o'clock in the morning.

I like his voice and I like the way he goes off on some people. The same people call in night after night though. I wish he was on at a more reasonable hour.

I also feel he is more sophisticated than Bernie Ward but that is just my own judgement. It is not scientific.

6. Ray
"The same people call in night after night though."

Especially "Sheldon from Oakland". He says the same thing every night: the unemployment rate is (blank), but it's really higher because of people who have dropped out of the labor force.

5. Bernie has superior debating skills
and a command of history and events

I like Ray, but I also think he jumps on people who disagree just to jump on them.

7. Please understand, this is still about rateings
These guys are NOT journalists, they are NOT wise sages from some thinktank, they are entertainers first and foremost. They don't even take themselves seriously. They have no more credibility than Rush Slimeball. Their job is to get rateings and sell commercials. If they don't do that, they don't have a job.

Please understand, I have been listening to both of them for about 20 years and I love em but it IS about selling commercials first and foremost. They are, after all, employees of Disney. The same Disney who fired Jim Hightower for his anti corporate stance. The same Disney that kept us out of the park in the 70's cause our hair was too long. The same Dismey who fired one of their cruise ship captains cause he wouldn't shave his moustache. The same Disney that employs sweatshop labor from Haiti to work for subsistance wages to produce their @20.00 Pocahauntas T-shirts.

Sure, It's nice to have Ray and Bernie on the air but it is still the bottom line that counts and the people who are doing the counting want them to stir us the kaka.
