This happened to a woman in New Mexico when we lived there, and now again in Oklahoma.. Who says we cannot "afford" mental health care for everyone ??

Suspect in pregnant woman's slaying jailed

Effie Goodson was arrested for the slaying of Carolyn Simpson and Simpson's six-month-old fetus.


HOLDENVILLE, Oklahoma (AP) -- A woman who had convinced her husband she was pregnant -- and was even thrown a baby shower -- killed a pregnant acquaintance and cut the fetus from her womb, authorities said Monday.

Effie Goodson, 37, faces two first-degree murder charges and a kidnapping count in the slaying of Carolyn Simpson, 21, who was six months pregnant, and the fetus.

A hunter found Simpson's body in a field near Lamar, about 100 miles from Oklahoma City, on Friday. She had been shot in the head, authorities said.

1. i heard about this yesterday

I told my husband "couldn't she have just kidnapped the baby after it was born if she wanted it so badly?" (not that I think kidnapping is a viable choice, but I think it's much better than killing a woman AND her baby).

This really is sick in so many ways.

But you do hear of this often--not killing the mother then cutting the child out of the womb, but women who pretend to be pregnant (stuffing pants with clothes, gaining weight, etc) and kidnap children from the hospital and show them off as their own.

Is it societal pressure that leads to this? That you're not considered a 'real woman' unless you have a child? Family pressures? inability to get pregnant on her own? Just plain mental illness with no organic sources?

3. I honestly don't know, but I do know that there are a lot of sick people

amongst us, and if no one helps them get better, this stuff just keeps on happeniing.. The woman who did this, did not do it in a vacuum.. SOMEONE in her family or circle of friends HAD to know that there was somehting desperately wrong with her..

How could you LIVE with someone who was "faking" something as big as a pregnancy.. ??

She must have a lot of "blind" people around her..:(

The baby in the New Mexico case was a full term baby and it lived.. The father got it back after a few months, if I remember correctly..

in fact one woman almost succeeded in fooling people...she even buried the pregnant woman she killed in her yard somewhere...

with so many children that are in the foster system...you would think people would try foster parenting but then again anyone this sick shoudln't raise any children...
