I've been searching google news regularly for weeks to monitor coverage of the * lied scandals. I've tried lots of combinations of descriptive words to try to find out what the American newspapers are picking up: WMD, questions, controversy, lies, credibility, uranium, Niger, intelligence lapse, etc. Those terms nearly always kicked up more international press, leaving me frustrated at what I was/was not finding.
Tonight, FINALLY, I thing I have found the "secret" code word for the bushista intelligence scandals: FLAP! The American press won't say "lie" and they haven't accepted that it's enough of a scandal for a catchy name. Moreover, the story keeps shifting as the scope of the deception is revealed. So it isn't always about Niger, uranium, WMD, etc.
But, for now, the American press seems to have universally adopted "flap" to describe the current complex web of problems the bushistas are facing. While "flap" doesn't convey the severity of what's going on, as far as I'm concerned, it's comforting to know the American press has come up with language for it.
