Hooded Men Executing Saddam Officials
Major-General Khalaf al-Alousi, a former director of the secret police in Baghdad, was assassinated on a Sunday afternoon this month when he visited a home he was renovating in Yarmouk. His wife, Um Ali, described how two men in black hoods were waiting for them in the yard and another in the house, and how she knew they were going to kill her husband . "I shouted and begged them not to do it, for the sake of his daughters," she said. The ex-general tried to talk to his killers. "I never saw such calm before," Um Ali said later. The gunmen fired 17 bullets into their victim.

The guard on the house, Wisam Eidan, had earlier found the men in the yard. "One of them showed me an ID written in English with his picture, and he told me, 'don't argue with the CIA and keep your mouth shut'." In fact, al-Alousi's family suspect Iranian agents were responsible. He was, they said, in contact with the American-created Governing Council.

Among the most savage of the recent killings came when Dhamia Abbas, a teacher walking to school with her two sons in Najaf, was sprayed with bullets from an AK-47 rifle. "I left the Baath party five years ago," she said from her hospital bed. "But they have been threatening me and following me. I was wearing a full veil when they shot me. I want to take my sons and leave Iraq." What Mrs Abbas did not know when she said this was that one of her two boys, aged four, had already died of his wounds.

The local police admit that they have not solved a single crime against ex-Baathists, acknowledging that they will themselves become targets if they attempt to do so. The killers are supposedly receiving $250 for every Baathist they eliminate...

What sort of prejudice might you have to jump to the conclusion that it's the Mossad when there are very active and very angry groups of Iraqi people who despised everything Saddam and his supporters did to them and the Kurds?

Revealing responses, tho. :eyes:

21. "Revealing responses..."?
what is your malfunction? The Mossad is NOTORIOUS for creating
death squads to "get rid" of "undesirables". What's more...they can
and WILL do it here in the States as well.
Remember that Sharon has a policy of "pre-emptive assassination"...

11. Well, that's patently insane
Do you really think we're not able to do this on our own?

For that matter, if we weren't going to do it alone, wouldn't we use the allies we usually use for torture and other operations not legal for US forces? In case you don't know, that would be Egypt and Jordan where our prisoners in Guantanamo Bay are shipped for occasional "visits" when we want answers that aren't allowed under US law.

I'd really like to see why you assume Israel? Could it be just a matter of picking on a country you personally dislike rather than caring for the facts and history of the matter?

Israel trains US assassination squads in Iraq

Julian Borger in Washington
Tuesday December 9, 2003

Israeli advisers are helping train US special forces in aggressive counter-insurgency operations in Iraq, including the use of assassination squads against guerrilla leaders, US intelligence and military sources said yesterday.

The Israeli Defence Force (IDF) has sent urban warfare specialists to Fort Bragg in North Carolina, the home of US special forces, and according to two sources, Israeli military "consultants" have also visited Iraq.

US forces in Iraq's Sunni triangle have already begun to use tactics that echo Israeli operations in the occupied territories, sealing off centres of resistance with razor wire and razing buildings from where attacks have been launched against US troops.

But the secret war in Iraq is about to get much tougher, in the hope of suppressing the Ba'athist-led insurgency ahead of next November's presidential elections.

Israel to kill in U.S., allied nations
By Richard Sale, UPI Newswire
January 15, 2003

Israel is embarking upon a more aggressive approach to the war on terror that will include staging targeted killings in the United States and other friendly countries, former Israeli intelligence officials told United Press International.

Israeli Prime Minister Ariel Sharon has forbidden the practice until now, these sources said, speaking on condition of anonymity.

The Israeli statements were confirmed by more than a half dozen U.S. foreign policy and intelligence officials in interviews with UPI.

With the appointment of Meir Dagan, the new director Israel's Mossad secret intelligence service, Sharon is also preparing "a huge budget" increase for the spy agency as part of "a tougher stance in fighting global jihad (or holy war)," one Israeli official said.

16. Maybe...maybe not....
Mossad would simply blow up his car or something. Maybe shoot him
from a distance. They wouldn't risk having one of their evildoers
caught.

12. No, in fairness they are all expatriates
Intellectuals, business people, and their families who left Iraq because of the abuses of the Baathist regime. They are doctors, teachers, and ordinary folks who run every local Zippy Mart within a couple of miles of my home. San Diego County is home to about 25,000 Iraqi-Americans.

19. Iraq has not had peace since the Baathists
took over in the 60s. No telling how many Iraqis were murdered by Saddam (500,000?), or Iranians, or Kuwatis. One can only hope that as time passes that they will achieve a true civil society.

With that much history of killing, I would not be in the least surprised that a relative of one murdered by Saddam would feel justified in killing Baathists. Revenge killing is not unknown in that part of the world.

US death squads?

http://www.pittsburghlive.com/x/tribune-review/opinion/reiland/s_170712.html

"A revitalized Special Forces mission is a policy victory for Secretary of Defense Rumsfeld, who has struggled for two years to get the military leadership to accept the strategy of what he calls 'Manhunts' -- a phrase that he has used both publicly and in internal Pentagon communications," writes Seymour Hersh in The New Yorker's Dec. 15 issue. "According to American and Israeli military and intelligence officials, Israeli commandos and intelligence units have been working closely with their American counterparts at the Special Forces training base at Fort Bragg, N.C., and in Israel to help them prepare for operations in Iraq."

22. Time magazine just had a story on this
Take a look at the December 1 issue, the one with Bush's beat up face on the cover. Page 58. It covers a group of Iraqis who have committed themselves to vengeance against Saddam's regime.

"A construction worker, ... Jasmin, 31 has scores to settle."

He was tortured in 1999 with electric shocks to his penis. Now he is part of a cell that is systematically murdering members of Saddam's ex-regime. It's like a star chamber. They meet formally, discuss who to kill, vote on it, and then kill them.

"Most of the two dozen or so Baathists killed recently in Basra were teachers. Some teachers had senior positions in the old regime, but many others had joined the Baath Party just to further their careers."

The bodies are dumped in a lot with a letter identifying them as members of the odl regime.

"Iraqi police profess helplessness in the face of the revenge spree."

I read somewhere else that an Iraqi policeman said there were only 50 or so Baathists in his town, so the killing would end soon. That was in response to over 30 of them having been murdered in the last three months, and the police not doing anything about it.

It also talked about how the doctors who had cut ears and tongues off of deserters have been murdered.
