1. I'm not sure
I can even parse that, much less agree or disagree with it ;)

2. Not necessarily.

It could just as easily make people anxious to cancel the Endless War. It could translate to a feeling of final victory.

I really don't think Bush and Co. want to capture bin Laden unless it's near election time.

4. It wouldn't be Bush

That gets Osama,It would be our military. Bush didn't even have enough stones to man his National Guard post, let alone actually go after an international terrorist. I know it is a minor nit-pick point, but I don't like to pass up the opportunity to point out the fact that he is a big chicken-shit!

11. it won't be him, but
the media will portray it like he went into the mountains himself, fought off dozens of his Al-Qaeda bodyguards with his bare hands and dragged Osama out by his beard.

5. I think it's very possible
that they're saving Osama for a politically opportune moment in next years election cycle. I think this possibility must go into Democratic contingency planning-we should be ready with an appropriate response that minimizes the political advantage that Bush would get. This is something that we, and the Democratic nominee should be thinking carefully about well in advance of it actually happening.

I we prepare, and handle it properly, I don't think that it will mean a certain win for Bush.

In fact, maybe the best thing would be to float the idea that this will happen, well in advance, to help the American people see it for the cheap political stunt that it will be.

6. They will never capture Osama alive
and they will never kill him, anymore than the CIA killed Che in South America. Even DNA evidence will not convince the terrorists that he is dead, and even if he is dead, he has become a symbol of Muslim intransigence that is going to be this era's version of El Cid.

We are past the point at which killing one man, or a dozen, or a hundred will stop the terrorists. If we do manage to kill him you can expect a wave of terrorist attacks that will far surpass anything we have seen to date.

We will cut off one head of the Hydra, and two more will spring up in its place.

What is needed is an international campaign, not only to find and neutralise the terrorists, but to change the world for the better so that the root causes of terrorism can be dealt with.

This would be bad news for the greedy, of course, but life's a bitch after all.

Where there is a real liberal party.

9. Yep. It's called the New Democratic Party...
The only party to oppose Bush's unilateralism SINCE 9-11, not just the Iraqi campaign.

The Liberal Party are pretty much owned by the Multi-nationals. Only, like in Europe, the Government still fears REAL electoral backlash and won't go to far right - social policy wise.

The soon to be merged Alliance/Conservative party will lose Red Tories to both the NDP and the Liberals.

With a Bush-ennabling Conservative like Paul Martin at the Liberal helm, the NDP could gain alot of left wing votes and hold the balance of power...

8. Osama bin Forgotten
And we have seen how wagging the terra is working lately.
If we captured ObL, it would not mean squat. In fact, if he is caught, we will in all likelihood be *less* safe from terror, not more.

We are going to have a lot of mentally unbalanced vets coming home.
They already have been shafted, and they will not find a lot of jobs to spare when they get here.

I anticipate a fair amount of freebooting will occur when they get home.
And we probably have a dozen or so Tim McVeigh's coming home as well.
People who won't be doing crime against property for loot, but will be doing terrorism, for retribution over their experinces while there.

10. I hope you're wrong, too.
If you're right, then please do me a favor and kill me. Quickly and preferrably painlessly, but just kill me.

13. bush needs osama
bush needed 9-11
the problem with capturing osama -- is the terrorist bombings won't go away because of it.
the u.s. isn't going to get the new ways it needs to think about security until a democrat is in the white house.
republicans are unable to deal with government functions, i.e. if we have more elmo alerts it means we are less secure rather than more.
what republicans want from elmo alerts is a terrified public -- the problem there is that's a fishing line that plays out, then what?
bush gets osama -- then someplace in the world blows up -- it gets harder for the moron in charge to say we are safer.
my own personal feeling is that a mountain is sitting on osama -- and al queda has been re-inventing itself.

14. IMHO OBL will play into '04, just like everything
gw rove does, this will be part of the scripted summer/fall '04. Thinking of the Lincoln landing, Jessica Lynch, "capture" of Sadam... It's all been a show.
