Can a computer whiz CAPTURE this website (the terror lottery)?
www.policyanalysismarket.org.

Can someone who has a fast computer and knows how to capture (save) whole website pages somehow get a copy of the website explaining the futures lottery thing that the pentagon has initiated?

I am *sure* that the whole idea is going to be bagged a.s.a.p.

And we need to have a record of the INSANE VULGAR GROTESQUE things this insane administration is putting forward (campaign material, dontcha know!)

Here is some is its spiel:

A Market in the Future of the Middle East:

A policy analysis market will provide insight into the
interactions between the Middle Eastern and US Interests
and Policy Decisions.

Trader Registration starts August 1
Trading begins October 1

THESE PEOPLE ARE CRAZY!!!!!!!

3. remember enron- they got into exotic trading of "futures" such as weather
never quite understood it. But this sounds like that.

In this case it appears that the traders essentially take bets on certain events in the middle east - many tied to our military actions and possible terrorist events. If you think x is going to happen you "buy futures" on it - if it happens you collect the money from those who bet that it wasn't going to happen.

They are claiming that "markets" (re: how investors act) are better predictors than "experts" and that they can "learn" from how the trading unfolds.

It is the most depraved thing I have seen in quite a while.

Not surprising, this project was developed under Poindexter. Go find the LBN thread on Pentagon and Future Markets. It is a yahoo story which gives a pretty good explanation.

9. Thanks! This is sponsored by the PENTAGON?
Pentagon Plans Futures Market for Events in Mideast (Update1)

July 28 (Bloomberg) -- The U.S. military plans a worldwide on-line futures market to help it predict events in the Middle East. Traders could bet on the likelihood of events ranging from the overthrow of a government to the collapse of an economy or the assassination of Palestinian leader Yasser Arafat.

Traders can register starting August 1; on-line trading would begin a month later, according to the program's Web site. Two Democratic U.S. senators say the market is a terrible idea and must be stopped.

``Clearly, this is morally wrong,'' Oregon Senator Ron Wyden said. Senator Byron Dorgan of North Dakota called it ``the most Byzantine thing I have ever seen proposed by a federal agency.''

The Pentagon requested $3 million for the project in its fiscal 2004 budget. The Senate said no; the House said yes. The budget is now before a conference committee of both chambers. If the Pentagon doesn't shut it down, ``we have to find a way in conference,'' Dorgan said. ``This is a hare-brained scheme.'' <more>

It's not linked to from any of their other pages. I thought it was interesting.

Anyway, I've got it mirrored as well in case all the others go down so this isn't dropping into the memory hole.

the one that reportedly went away an hour after the Senators' news conference.

Look at the current price list. Do we think that .26 means 26 cents, 26 dollars, 260 dollars, 2600 dollars? What stakes do we think these nutjobs are trying to build?

6. I got several screen shots,
including this DARPA part:

The Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA) is interested in improving on existing techniques for predicting future events and for assessing the issues that underlie and influence what might happen. DARPA has funded the development and operations of PAM. U.S. government agencies will not be allowed to participate in PAM and DARPA will not have access to the identities or funds of PAM traders.

From the site

The intent is to ``answer predictive questions such as `Will terrorists attack Israel with bio-weapons in the next year?''' DARPA said. ``To answer this question, FutureMap would aggregate information from a variety of experts.''

http://quote.bloomberg.com/apps/news?pid=10000103&sid=aFteJq2TUQoM&refer=us

From Mindy Kleinberg's 9/11 Commisssion testimony:

On the Chicago Board Options Exchange during the week before September 11th, put options were purchased on American and United Airlines, the two airlines involved in the attacks. The investors who placed these orders were gambling that in the short term the stock prices of both Airlines would plummet. Never before on the Chicago Exchange were such large amounts of United and American Airlines options traded. These investors netted a profit of at least $5 million after the September 11th attacks.

Interestingly, the names of the investors remain undisclosed and the $5 million remains unclaimed in the Chicago Exchange account.

22. A snip from yahoo......on funding amounts
Surely such a threat should be met with intelligence gathering of the highest quality — not by putting the question to individuals betting on an Internet Web site," they said.

Wyden said $600,000 has been spent on the program so far and the Pentagon plans to spend an additional $149,000 this year. The Pentagon has requested $3 million for the program for next year and $5 million for the following year.

Wyden said the Senate version of next year's defense spending bill would cut off money for the program, but the House version would fund it. The two versions will have to be reconciled.

27. ABC News has a Piece about this Pentagon Site
<>
WASHINGTON July 28 —

The Pentagon is setting up a commodity-market style trading system in which investors would be able to bet on political and economic events in the Middle East including the likelihood of assassinations and terrorist attacks.

Two Democratic senators said Monday they want the project stopped before investors begin registering this week....
<>
That graphic was apparently removed from the Web site hours after the news conference by Sens. Ron Wyden of Oregon and Byron Dorgan of North Dakota criticizing the market....

Edited on Tue Jul-29-03 06:04 AM by loyalsister
They must have established that as a criteria and done done MMPI testing!! Certainly comments by Rummy, Condi, and without a doubt * indicate that they ENJOY killing people.
-Condi told Wesley Clark that's what are troops are for, after all.
-And * gets such glee from it all.
I remember a story when he was paying attention to the war on terra. He said he wanted a chart so that he could cross off the pictures of the most wanted terrorist as they were caught. He said some thing like "I'm a baseball fan I want a chart."
Here we see how the baseball fan and business man operates as a serial killer by proxy. Watching the "hunting games" and watching the market as he makes bets at least in his head is the sport for him. Killing is one of the few things he joyously takes responsibility for.
"Feels good!" "Bring 'em on!" "I hit the trifecta." "Please don't kill me." "That's one terrible pilot."
He tries to get punchlines out of deaths he is directly responsible for AND observes.
INSANE VULGAR GROTESQUE DEPRAVED DEMENTED HORRIFYING!!!!!!!! All of it! These things are all related. We cannot let this escape the publics eye and it needs to be understood as something that reveals a pattern of thinking.
I really believe that very few people will be able to accept this plan as anything less. The story seems to be picking up quite a bit of mainstream press quickly. I saw it on CNN last night.
