2. It's more of a distraction from more important news
But don't let that stop the punishment party for making sure he get the full penalty of the law. Revenge is often more exciting than news of memogates, plame blame, haliburton fees, kurdgate, turkeygate, lynchgate, etcgate so let's get out there and cheer on the lynching of a wingbag hooked on opiates and ignore the sideshows!

3. call me a libertarian on this ...
but I don't think prescription drugs like Oxycontin or Hydrocodone should be hard to get. These are manufactured drugs with measured doses. It's not the heroin hot-shot you can get that will kill you.

Yes they are addictive and habit forming over time. But that should be up to the individual to deal with. Also, make it so you can write your own rX and it will be tracked and abusers can be urged to get help instead of doctor shopping.

I don't think anyone should be prosecuted for this so I am not going to start with Rush.

9. Actually, I don't think anyone should be prosecuted for these or any other
"illegal' drugs. But that is not the issue. RL has been a cheerleader for the incarceration of "drug offenders" for lo, these many years. Only when he is under suspicion for doing the very thing he has ranted against did it become a "privacy" issue. So the problem for everyone is not that he deserves punishment for swallowing pills, it's that he does for fomenting hatred and torment towards others who did nothing more than he himself did.

I agree it's essentially a victimless crime (excluding the co-identity of the victim/perpetrator), but having spent decades degrading and encouraging punishment for those who did precisely what he did, he deserves no more mercy than what he prescribed for them.

The nature of hypocrites is, of course, that they never detect it in themselves.

11. Oxy is the same as heroin
when purchased illegally and crushed to shoot up or snort it is no different. Rush wasn't taken a measured dose and he wasn't taking it as the doctor ordered. Eventually many of the people addicted to it just switch to heroin because it is easier to get. It is the same substance.

Of course people should be prosecuted for this. How do you think Rush was getting this drug? Do you imagine the pharmacuetical companies keep a supply that they market in Denny's parking lots? These black market supplies are stolen from drug stores and hospital supply rooms. Several pharmacists have been killed or injured so that people like Rush the big fat idiot can get his fix of illegal narcotics.

But more than that, Rush should sit his ass in jail. It is what he would advocate for anyone else.

13. Oxy can be more dangerous than heroin
It is a time-release synthetic narcotic. It's time release comes from a slow digestive process from a fairly large pill size. When crushed and snorted or dissolved and shot up, it is really dangerous. Tons and tons of od's.

23. I've taken it....
and in pill form it is extremely predictable. Even injected I would think a single pill is predictable because it contains the exact same amount of Oxy in each pill. I don't doubt people OD like this but compared with heroin which can be "hot" and isn't rationed as well as the pharmaceutical versions, Oxy is much safer.

14. That's all good when you can afford to buy your pills, like Rush...
...but what about those folks who have to resort to sticking guns in people's faces to get enough money?

Obviously never been around addicts, and I don't mean your school chums who blow a little boo in mom's basement.

17. If YOU got caught with Oxycontin..
Rush would be foaming at the mouth, and demanding you be sentenced to 5 years. That's why all of us who don't believe in people getting sentenced to hard time for drugs, make a notable exception in his case.

the most popular person in America. Everyone is aware of his addiction. So it is important weather actual laws are obeyed, or cronyism is more powerful than law.

24. Which lies should we start at?
The 687 in 1988, 476 in 1989...or the larger numbers of 12,455+/- 5% per year starting in 1992 and going on through 2000?

I tend to agree with your principles as far as drug use is concerned. However, at the same time, we are talking about a person who has advocated harsh penalties for drug users and probably has helped shape public opinion into being harder and harder on drug offenders and scoffed at liberal notions of treating addiction as a medical problem rather than a criminal one.

As such, I have no problem with him facing the same form of justice he advocated on his show for drug users.

Note, this was actually meant as a reply to tbeaty, not the originator.

26. I have been to Surprise, AZ, might even have met this guy once or twice...
but that is beside the point.

For years, many of us have had to have the drug laws of this country changed. Many of us realize that if you are poor, and found in possession of an illegal drug, you will become a statistic and be incarcerated.

It is the blatant hypocrisy that is so offensive. So, he got caught; he's not man enough to stand up and say, "Go ahead, take a look at my records"? This will not become an invasion of privacy, it is an investigation into possible criminal activity. If he were the great moralist he pretends to be, he would not have the "infamous Trial Lawyer", catching his flack, he would be responsible for his actions. Take this thing to court if there is a case. If he is innocent of the charges, fine; he can rant about 'those damn liberals out to get him".
If he is guilty though, he should forgo all appeals, and go to jail/prison and be done with it.

This man has no spine. This man has no courage. This man has no dignity. This man has no pretense to morality. He is a cowardly little soul that hides in a room with a microphone and refuses to take any questions that may compromise his rhetoric. He is a low life that will reach out for any string that will save him from the ditch he has dug with his own hands.

I say goodbye to him......as will most others as time goes by. One thing a RWnut can't stand is a whiner, (even though they seem to whine the loudest).

O8)
