2. Here's some of the story
Ripped from the wire; no link

... The people were taken aside and questioned extensively by police, the official said. Their baggage was searched. But no sign of terror connections was found, he said, and all had been released by 7 a.m. Paris time Christmas morning. Six other passengers who showed up for flight 70 to Los Angeles were also questioned and released.

The French official called the cancellations a ``non-event.'' He added, ``There is no danger... And if there was any, specific measures would be taken.''

... For this reason, U.S. officials believe it is unlikely that terrorists might try to divert an Air France Paris-to-Los Angeles flight to a city far from its flight path, such as New York. The Air France flights in question cross the Hudson Bay and eastern Canada before dipping down to airspace over Minnesota, and then taking a sharp southwestern swing toward southern California.

``The only big city near this route is Las Vegas, which they would consider a nice attractive target,'' one informed government official said.

The al-Qaida network has long considered Las Vegas to be one of its top targets for a strike because it sees the city as a citadel of western licentiousness, American officials said. In recent days officials said that the intelligence that led to the government's Dec. 21 imposition of the orange or ``high risk'' terror alert included references to possible al-Qaida interest in Las Vegas.

4. I wonder if this is true
I live in Las Vegas so naturally I find this headline interesting. I wonder what they planned to attack in Las Vegas (assuming this story is true). I guess Dean is right; the capture of Saddam Hussein did not make us any safer.

7. Actually Al Qaida considers Vegas
Edited on Thu Dec-25-03 09:06 PM by nadinbrzezinski
the center of lasciviousness in the US, and the proof of a lower form of life,

Kind of like the modern Sodoma or Gomorrah.

That said I like how they are causing alert fatigue

I wonder did Babs aver tell his dim witted son the story of the boy
who cried wolf too many times? For that matter, how about Pickles...

12. I guess Vegas might be on some Al Qaeda
wish list somewhere, but why would they hit Vegas when they could take the plane on into L.A., crash it there, and kill a lot more people? Hollywood's not wicked enough for them?

13. Didn't the 9/11 hijackers meet in LasVegas?
I always thought that a bit strange, given its reputation as "Sin City."

14. I saw something about that on one of
those "news" shows -- 20/20 or something. I saw another one that said one of the hijackers was in a strip club in Florida a couple of nights before 9/11. He got drunk as Cooter Brown and left his Koran in the bar. Ludicrous stories. Almost as funny as the one where they found the passport of one of the hijackers in the wreckage at the WTC.

10. Pure bullshit.
Oh, I don't doubt for a minute that my hometown, Vegas, is right up there as an attractive target, and probably in every sicko's cross hairs, including our own sickos": Pat Robertson, Jerry Fallwall, et. all.

But so far, NOT ONE NEVADA OFFICIAL, STATE, CITY, ETC. has been informed of such an impending attack. NOT ONE!

If this was credible, surely our governor, mayor, sheriff, police chief - ANY ONE OF THESE PERSONS - would have been informed so that they could take appropriate action. THIS DID NOT HAPPEN! ALL THE AFORE MENTIONED PERSONS HAS STATED THAT THEY HAVE HEARD NOTHING TO DATE!

So this is purely a political stunt to keep damaging info off the front pages! Nothing more. Utter bullshit.

Where's FDR and his "we only have to fear fear itself" when we desperately need it!!

11. Is Las Vegas close to Tappahannock or Rappahannock?
Cause another report claimed they were going to target some small towns with a name like that.

Sounds like bullshit all around.
