Xmas present from Hell (Bush)
Edited on Wed Dec-24-03 06:04 PM by Mari333
My stepson just walked in on Xmas Eve, and handed me his army reserve orders they just gave him.
Iraq, Jan 4th. for 365 days.
Send some light this way, please. This is the worst Xmas ever.

1. Pray for peace
and pray for his safety. I know I will be doing this, as well as sending some Light (ya Nur) your way.

Salaam.

3. Sending some light.....
I and many others are here posting on Christmas Eve because we want to put a stop to the madness. Every day more people join us.

We aren't going to stop fighting and we will do everything we can to get your son and all of the others back safely.

Today I got a Christmas card from a fundamentalist rightwinger I know who used to have patriotic slogans, etc on her email signature. This year the word "peace" actually appeared on her card and that gives me hope.

4. That is so sad; my hopes are with your stepson now
May his convoys be safe and his footsteps cautious, may he return alive and whole before this time next year.

Give a copy of "Dude, Where's My Country?" or "Stupid White Men" to take with him; his entire platoon could end up reading it.

5. You are not alone.. There are many families with the same situation
The only thing you can do now is to support him and send him lots of care packages, and a nice calendar for "x-ing" the days off.. The law of averages says he will be fine.. One thing you may have to do, is NOT watch the news.. It will make you crazy.. My friend whose son is there cannot watch the news.. She wants to, hoping that she might see him, but she's too upset to actually watch..:(

Enjoy the time he has left stateside and start x-ing those days.. We'll help keep your chin up :grouphug:

6. I've never had a worse Christmas.
Thanks, honey, for sticking up for my son online and in public.

He acts like it's no big deal, but AT LEAST A YEAR IN IRAQ? I'm sick to my stomach.

I asked him earlier whether or not he's worried, and he said, "Nah." I know better. I can see it in his eyes. I'd be scared shitless if I were him.

His marching orders specify 365 days, from 2003 to "To be Determined."

I don't know whether to cry or throw up.

This was not necessary.

7. May the Great Architect craft a plan of peace
"Individuals have international duties which transcend the national obligations of obedience…therefore have the duty to violate domestic laws to prevent crimes against peace and humanity from occurring."

- Nuremberg War Crime Tribunal, 1950

When is the march on Washington?
The one you'll call the "Truthout" March.
It is easy for evil to hide in secrecy.
Once out within the light - it shrivels and dies.
