72. I also know Foley
...and he is a real let-down in the gay community.

He votes GOP all the time, is most definitely gay (we know his boyfriend), and has a disappointing voting record.

On the plus side, he drives a pretty car.

15. -10!
My congressional rep is a horror show! I have the misfortune of being "represented" by Tom Feeney. It's his first term in congress (having won a seat drawn especially for him) after being speaker of the Florida house of representatives.

As speaker of the house, he wanted to seceed from the Union if the budget deficit hit a certain point (we don't hear anything about that anymore), wanted to build a statewide database of every woman who had had an abortion, and threatened to have the state legislature declare bush the winner of the 2000 election if the Supreme Court hadn't intervened.

He was blatant about cutting Democratic donors out of state business, had several unethical lobbying deals as a state rep, and is widely considered to be a new Tom DeLay in training.

Edited on Tue Jul-08-03 05:45 PM by LynneSin
He was the representative in my neighboring district where I grew up. Was the Pork champion abusing his Transportation Chair title. I still remember when 60 minutes did an expose on Bud showing the kickbacks and how he insisted tax dollars be used to build a private airport in Tyrone PA. (middle of nowhere)

You think something like that would keep the son out of office

(I didn't fair much better - I had that doddering old fool George Gekas - who was doddering even when I was a young kid living in Perry County almost 20 years ago. Thank god his fool ass is out of congress)

Before his vote for the invasion resolution last fall, I would have given him a 10. Afterwards, I would have given him a 9. Now he gets an 8 for moving too much to the center since. The bitch-slapping he got from his constituents seems to have awakened him a bit or it would be lower.

Along with Pete Stark, Dennis Kucinich, Barney Frank, Bernie Sanders, Henry Waxman (Iraqiattaqi excepted, she's the heart and soul of this country.

She's the person I want to see as the first woman President.

Her performance from the audience at the Nightline Town Hall meeting before the war was breathtaking, just as Pete Stark's vote speech on the bill.

I feel very fortunate to have him as my rep. One of only 65 members of the house that voted against the fascist Patriot Act, and is not afraid to speak out against the Bush regime. On his 4th term now -- hopefully he'll be around a while! Has a great voting record too. I had the chance to spend about ten minutes chatting privately with him about Bush when he held office hours in my town and was very impressed.

He's been around long enough to be higher up in the Dem leadership than he actually is, so no 10. On the tough issues, though, especially Iraq, Neil's one we can count on.

Edit: Oh yes, along with Zoe Lofgren from CA, Neil is among the first elected Dems to endorse Howard Dean for President.

Mine is Major Owens and I'd give him a 100 out of 10. He is a solid progressive Dem that's been the rep for this district practically since I was born. I can't think of anything off the top of my head that he's done and I didn't approve of. He has been fighting for a 9/11 investigation since day one. Pro-choice, fantastic on civil rights, pro-environment, and on and on...

This is hardcore Dem territory, though, FWIW.

The Ohio first district congressman and I rarely agree on anything. I will say one thing on his behalf. He does reply to my E-mails and letters, and fairly quickly too.

I know there was one vote whith which I disagreed with Congressman Tierney, but right now, I can't even remember what it was. Since he is now in his 4th term in office, I think he has earned a 10.

'Course, I knew he was a 10 before he was first elected.

81. Currently have Jim Turner
He's a moderate to conservative Dem and I would rate him as a 5. He's still very good on labor and most economic issues and pretty good on choice.

But he's a heck of a lot better than what I will be stuck with if this re-re-districting plan passes. :(

Republican from the 6th district in PA. He's a 1. I gave him a point for voting against drilling in ANWAR. Otherwise, he almost always votes Repuke party line. I used to have Joe Hoeffel, and he is an 8. Joe wasn't hurt by redistricting, but I was.

95. Rep. Mel Watt - A Perfect 10
I adore my congressman, Rep. Mel Watt. Not only does he always vote the way that I would, he is also easy to spot out and about town when Congress is not in session. I've run into him at farmers' markets and music festivals - not campaigning, just hanging out like any other person would. He once stated recently that this country is closer to a dictatorship than it has ever been. The comment was made during the time that Trent Lott was getting the boot from the Bush administration over his Strom Thurmond remarks. Rep. Watt, a member of the Congressional Black Caucus, was disturbed by the Bush White House's use of Lott's racist remark to grab more power in an effort to control every single branch of government.

I give him 7.5 just for holding the seat. This is Republican Central, but Mr. Moore was elected and has been re-elected once despite re-districting.

Luckily the state GOP is constantly being fought over by "Moderate Republicans (formerly known as Conservative Republicans) and "Conservative Republicans" (otherwise known as really-far right ultra-conservative religous fundamentalists) and although the "moderates" generally have the upper hand the in-fighting has certainly helped.
