2. Mad Cow disease? Egad!
Now, how are they going to try to blame this on terrorism. You know there are going to be clueless fundies out there who think this has something to do with the terra alert.

4. Now you know why I am a vegetarian.
Edited on Tue Dec-23-03 05:59 PM by Cleita
This was a downer cow, which means the poor animal was sick and not standing when killed. So now that you know how you get your food supply, maybe it's time to start insisting on humane treatment for farm animals.

5. Is that really your reason for being vegetarian?
Fear of polluted meat? If it was 100% confident that it was clean would you then eat meat?

6. for swhile, she-bear and i worked in a slaughter house
what we saw there made us both into vegetarians.

we have since found a farmer who we trust.

if you heard the press conference, the cow was a "downer" meaning that it could not stand when it got to the slaughterhouse. when we worked in the industry, the rule was that downers had to be kept seperate because they could only be used as pet food. that mean lost money. the management had a guy who's job it was to cut out the sick and feeble and make sure to move them to the front of the line to they could be killed before they fell down.

sometimes the smell of chemicals/pharmacuticals was almost overwhelming when you cut into the sick cows. who knows what junk they shot them up with to keep them standing long enough to be people food.

i have not eaten in a fast food restaurant since 1982 because of what i saw from the inside.

7. I wouldn't eat much but maybe I would on festive occasions.
My grandmother kept chickens and she had to kill the excess roosters and hens that had stopped laying, which we ate. But those roosters and hens led a natural life, free to scratch around during the day and they were fed nutritious corn by my grandmother. They had a humane life until she dispatched with them, very quickly too, before they knew what happened.

This is how we should farm animals, not the way we do it today. I have discovered the benefits though of vegetarianism in my blood pressure and cholesterol.
