17. ABSOLUTELY! Sorry I'm yelling, but -
It is URGENT, URGENT, URGENT, to respond about this. Ol' Wolfie needs to know that he's striking a chord with a LOT of people to whom this is a huge issue. If they don't hear anything from out here in viewer-land, they won't think there's anything to it, and worse, they'll presume America doesn't care. That's what's being repeated everywhere, that this is no big deal, and we ALL know differently!!!

He needs positive reinforcement on this!

Thanks!

12. Bush KNEW it was a lie before SOTU according to this:
An intelligence consultant who was present at two White House briefings where the uranium report was discussed confirmed that the President was told the intelligence was questionable and that his national security advisors urged him not to include the claim in his State of the Union address.
"The report had already been discredited," said Terrance J. Wilkinson, a CIA advisor present at two White House briefings. "This point was clearly made when the President was in the room during at least two of the briefings."
Bush's response was anger, Wilkinson said.
"He said that if the current operatives working for the CIA couldn't prove the story was true, then the agency had better find some who could," Wilkinson said. "He said he knew the story was true and so would the world after American troops secured the country."

25. I like what I see of the site....talks about my old post office......
in Arlington Va., among other things

they have a reader rant section.

here's one on the above story, from somebody who seems to know a least a little about nukes

I had wondered if President Bush might have been thinking along these lines. Assuming that the quotes are accurate, it's still disturbing to have that suspicion confirmed.

There was another problem with the whole idea that Iraq had a revived nuclear program: it wasn't feasible. There are only a few ways of enriching uranium or breeding plutonium - without which you can't make a bomb - and all of those ways are extremely expensive, take technical skill, and can be idenftied fairly easily from aerial recon.
You can't hide a breeder reactor, you can't hide thousands of centrifuges, you can't hide a gaseous diffusion plant. You can't hide a calutron effort if anyone checks for it, and that method, the one they were working on back in 1990, is hideously expsnive.

In the 90s, Iraq was stony broke. They no longer had a lot of money to buy high-quality foreign equipment, and they certainly couldn't make the stuff themselves: I don't think the Iraqis are capable of making a saleable cuckoo clock. It's a backward country.

When the Administration asked people from the national labs (Los Alamos etc) they reportedly said there was no chance of a live program, one that was actually making enriched uranium or plutonium. Their objections were ignored.

Sheesh, Bush must have actually _believed_ this crap. I kept looking for the hidden reason, since the public claims were technically impossible, but there was none, at least not on his part.

Duck and cover!

something's going to happen if this keeps up.

there've been many threads on this idea, and does anyone here doubt that they're incapable of LIHOP/MIHOP?

I met a woman from East Germany last year, and she said EVERYbody she knows in Europe (she says it's a LOT) thought that it wasn't either LIHOP/MIHOP, but that there was an even more insidious connection.

can't go that far, told her that, but she thought I was "dangerously naive"........needed to wake up to what a truly monstrous regime was in power. didn't argue with that part, but still can't bring myself that far around the corner.

LIHOP......sure

anything past that........need more

35. Link at last with some lowlights:
What's clear now is that earlier intelligence reports suggesting Saddam Hussein's regime was attempting to obtain uranium from the African nation of Niger were based on false information, including forged documents.

But what's even more embarrassing to Bush administration officials is that the Central Intelligence Agency and the State Department had themselves earlier concluded the Niger uranium reports were almost certainly not true.
