All Things Considered - Howard Dean
http://www.npr.org/programs/atc/index.html

Monday, July 28, 2003
Participation in the campaign of Democratic presidential hopeful Howard Dean is just a click away. On Dean's Web site, one can donate money, volunteer, or chat with other supporters. The candidate's staff believes its use of the Internet foreshadows a sea change in politics, but can it elect a candidate? (Read transcripts and listen to NPR News interviews with 2004 Democratic presidential candidates.)

1. The latest jab from the DLC...re: Dean
Centrist Democrats: Don't Vote for Dean
By DAVID B. CARUSO
Associated Press Writer

PHILADELPHIA (AP)--Democratic presidential hopeful Howard Dean's upstart campaign has excited the party's liberal activists, but centrists have only one thing to say about the candidate: Don't vote for him.

Many members of the Democratic Leadership Council are convinced that Dean's opposition to the war in Iraq makes him too liberal for middle America, and they worry that if he wins the nomination it could undo years of work to persuade the country that the Democratic Party isn't controlled by its left wing.

No group has taken a more hostile view to his candidacy than the DLC, and that attitude was evident Monday on the final day of the group's ``National Conversation,'' a two-day convention aimed at developing a strategy for unseating President Bush....>

2. They shunned the RFK-types in the local Dem parties

Or so said an old-time activist buddy of mine. We need an evangelical zeal to take over this party.

edit: I loved that segment. I think the NPR writers are paying attention to what is going on and they are "digging it".

5. keyword: upstart
mmm hmm. Very telling. A word commonly used, with great disdain, by nobility and/or the ruling elite. Who do you suppose they are supporting? Certainly not a lowly upstart.

Pardon my language but FUCK THAT attitude. I have had enough of entitlement.

6. Centrist Democrats SHOULD vote for Dean
This is just politics, but even at that it is pretty ridiculous.
