And they wonder why we rage!
In an article discussing bush's support for a ban on gay marriages, a citizen from Spokane, WA, listing himself as a Democrat offered these gems.

"I want my children to grow up and be normal like me and my father. I don't want my children to start getting ideas." In other words, he wants his kids to grow up and be a hatemongering moron like himself.

The citizen also worried that if gays were allowed to marry, they would get other RIGHTS too, like tax benefits. "BECAUSE THEY ARE A MINORITY, THEY'RE GOING TO START ACTUALLY GIVING THEM MORE PRIVILEGES THAN NORMAL PEOPLE WOULD HAVE." God forbid a tax paying citizen is given "rights."

And this gem - "MINORITIES ALWAYS TEND TO GET MORE THAN YOUR AVERAGE PERSON DOES."

All this ignorance from a "democrat." Our Constitution is in jeopardy folks from christian conservative moral absolutists. Be active.

1. I've heard similar sentiments from Democrats I know
Some people just have no empathy. They can't imagine how they would feel if they were homosexual, or brown-skinned or non-Christian in this society.

Remember the federal government had to force schools to integrate, the federal government will have to continue to work on the side of the rights of minorities because Americans are for the most part smug narrow-minded prigs.

Just looking for some consistency.

13. Sometimes he is, yes
I was none too happy with the esteemed Senator from WV when he said that non-Christians shouldn't live in this country (well before the IWR, Patriot debate, etc...).

Doesn't mean I don't agree with him on many other issues, especially as related to process issues in the Senate. I have a lot of respect for him on those matters.

But I tend to part ways with him on issues regarding social moires.

5. Sorry, but if we lose all the intolerant people who tend
to vote in our party we will lose in a landslide for sure. We must act like a church and embrace and welcome all "sinners" and hope to change their hearts and minds once we get them into the fold.

10. I hate being told I'm a sinner by people who know
Edited on Mon Dec-22-03 11:15 AM by Cannikin
nothing about me. People really should try to cast off there ignorance and open there minds just a bit.
Hitler, Saddam and others have been known to de-value groups of people and we go to war for those people. When Bush de-values us, whos's going to come to bat for us? Even as we free the Iraqi people, we're on the road to creaing a lesser class with no social value.
Its taken me years to come to terms with my sexuality because of the way the church has made me feel about myself. I'm not going to go back in the closet easily.

11. Try this
While Byrd may not be a progressive Liberal, he did stand up for the rights of the innocents in Iraq to have a longer life. For that we all owe him some gratitude.

Byrd is not perfect, no one is. But he was correct about the invasion. He stood up for the ultimate of rights: Life

14. Pat Buchanon opposed the Iraq war too,
and he's definitely not a progressive liberal, and I have no respect for either of them, and we owe neither of them any graditude. Theyre both racist pigs.

17. unsafe neighborhoods
some of the responses on this thread remind me that when the election was over in 00 and the count for the presidency was on in the house of representatives -- the cbc opposed the election based on the racist crap that happened in florida.
could they find one white senator to stand up with them for even a little justice?{need i point out that those white senators represented people of colour as well?}
minorities -- gay, like myself or any other -- have learned that we can be sold down the river even by our supposed allies.
the original poster points out who we know our enemies to be -- and then for the sake of the pragmatic we see others.
