Why Bin Laden won't be captured like Saddam
There seems to be a strong thread moving through the discussions of late that OBL will be found just before the election, giving Bush a victory.

The opposite view is that OBL will attack just before the election giving Bush an easy victory.

While the second one is possible and unknowable (it's one of the unknown unknowns), I give my view point on the first.

It has come to light that the administration and the Pentagon had little to do with the capture of SH. He was caught by his enemies the Kurds, whom SH has battled and killed since taking power. SH's rise to the top made many enemies and his power was solidified through fear, intimidation, torture, rape, and murder. Once he was no longer in direct control of his army (in fact his once valuted Repubican Guard was no where to be found in Baghdad), he lost much of the reason for his power. His ememies were no longer afraid and he had few friends left alive. A person on the run without allies is a person that will be caught sooner or later.

OBL is a different story altogether. Unlike the convenient faith of SH, OBL is a true believer through and through. His fervent zealotry has led him to develop and surround himself with followers that will die or kill on his word. He is worshiped by many in the Arab nations. While SH had support too, his was symbolic (The Americans/Jews vs. the Arabs), whereas OBL is seen in almost a messianic way.

There are few in the Arab world that would want to be known as the one who turned OBL into the Zionist swine. In fact, such an act, would be sucide for the person who did it and his family. Put that with the fact that 150,000 American soldiers searched for SH and even with that many enemies, it still took 8 months to catch him. We have 10,000 total looking for OBL in a country we do not control to the level that we do Iraq (I realize that control is a realative term, but I mean it in the sense of move at will and have semi-allies in the Kurds to the north, there is no equivalent in Afganistan, even the Northern Alliance has forgotten us).

Of all the October suprise possibilities, OBL doing the perp walk in front of Fox News camera teams is the least likely.

1. OBL will never be taken alive
no matter how much BushCo would love to have him do that perp-walk.

He'll pull the pin on his own grenades if he has to. Dead, he is a martyr and a hero, like Che. Alive, he is mocked and ridiculed like Saddam.

Keep in mind, OBL is a religious man who is fully convinced of the propriety of his actions. He will never allow Islam to be mocked by his being paraded around by the infidels like a prize.

This one I'm sure of.

3. I agree. He believes his own bullshit. Saddam did not.
Saddam was never suicidal, which is why I always knew he was not a threat to the U.S.

4. He could have gotten a transplant in a stretch of imagination.
Of all those Taliban and Al Queda who died during the invasion of Afghanistan, surely one of them was a match whose kidneys could be harvested. Osama always traveled with a physician, so he could have harvested the kidneys and thrown them into a cooler before they fled to Pakistan. The operation was probably done in Pakistan, since no one there wanted to turn him in.

Just a possibility, not a fact. If one was a novelist this could be a plot for a story.
