Dosen`t it seem odd that Al Qaida puts out a tape warning of a strike against us? Why would they want to advertise that they are going to hit us? And always around a holiday.

6. They want the Bushies to stay in power.
The tape allows Bush to say "See? If you oppose the GOP dictatorship, then you're with the terra-ists!"

7. The goal of terrorism is to make citizens lose trust in goverment
Thus the best way to accomplish this is the ol "you can't stop me" method. A sneak attack is one thing, but to be warned and then do it anyway is much more powerful.

I hope homeland security is up to the task. Any more attacks will give a green light for future wars.

13. Agreed. Addendum -- economic reasons
They need to prove that they're still out there and alive and kicking. If they appear weak and collapsing, their funding may dry up. They need to remind people that they're out there so that the wealthy Islamic extremists will continue to funnel funds to them. Their image that they're still out there "fighting the good fight" against the Americans encourages donations from wealthy religious extremists patrons. Otherwise, their funders may write them off.

9. Because...
"Why would they want to advertise that they are going to hit us?"

Because as long as we allow ourselves to be terrorized by mere THREATS of terrorist acts, they don't have to go through the effort and risk of conducting ACTUAL terrorist attacks.

When we start ignoring the threats, real attacks will come.

BTW, this theory works even if you subscribe to a MIHOP theory. Except in that case it's OUR leaders issuing the threats rather than foriegn terrorists.

10. When you figure out who "al-Qaeda" is, you'll understand
Bush needs al-qaeda as much as he needed Saddam.

14. Who do you think puts out those tapes?
It ain't some arab dude sitting in a cave. It's the same people who produced Radio Free Europe.

The U.S. government is controlling what you see and hear.
