17. Proud to be centrist.. but

that would be a Chomsky-admiring, anti-imperial, pro-social-programs, anti-corporate, anti-NAFTA, pro-free-speech, pro-civil rights, pro-"participatory-democracy" centrist.

I've just decided to re-claim the center ground from the rightwingers.

I believe that capitalist enterprise can find SOME room in my ideal society (just not in health care or in lobbying congress), so that qualifies me as a centrist.

I believe that communism and across-the-board-socialism are not the best solutions to the world's problems, so that qualifies me as a centrist.

I do not believe that automobiles and power plants and logging (and a host of other evils) should be made illegal (but I do believe in developing alternative fuels and in conservation) so that qualifies me as a centrist.

I'm sick of being told I'm in 'left field' just because I don't think we should be bombing for democracy, and just because I believe that our politicians are almost-universally devoted to the 1% that owns the country. I think my principles are right in the middle...

More than reclaiming the label 'liberal', perhaps we need to reclaim the label 'centrist'. Moderation in all things..
