NEWPORT NEWS -- When Jane Susan Frank sent a letter to Smithfield Packing Co. about a severe shortage of meat for hungry local families, she didn't expect anything huge in return. Maybe a couple of hams, or a nice box of hot dogs.

Not 10,000 pounds of meat.

3. How very Christlike.
I don't want to say "Christian" because a religious purpose likely wasn't the intent of the donation; nonetheless, there are many so-called "Christian" business that wouldn't think of doing anything like this, even around Christmas.

If only there were more businesses willing to do things like this.
